New User Introductions
Re: New User Introductions
Howdy! Glad to be here. I've run BFRPG a couple of times and really enjoy it. I'm in the great state of Texas (San Antonio) if you feel like chatting or maybe getting together. Thanks for having me!
Re: New User Introductions
Hi everyone! I'm Flores from Spain. I've gotten into this RPG rabbithole from almost 2 years now. I've started with 5e and the Dragon of Icespire Peak and went deeper and deeper. Looking for a lighter system, I've found Basic Fantasy to be exactly what I'm looking for.
So far I've greatly enjoyed soloing the triptic one shots from John Lopez, Tomb of The Serpent King and Waking of Willoby Hall using BFRPG, the Solo Heroes Supplement for Labyrinth Lord and Mythic 2e. I intend to star a new in-person campaign soon, or join an on-line one as soon as my schedule allows.
I'm still getting under the hood of the game and try to find ways to make it more actiony and fast. Mostly initiative, death options, armor options, inventory management, and adding some per rest character abilities. Not because I feel there is anything wrong the OSR playstyle, but I feel some inspiration from Dungeon World or Electic Bastionland will work great on how I run my games. But so far I'm running into a lot of Theseus's Paradox problems.
I would like to let you know that I'm a graphic designer and video editor, so if I can be of any help let me know! I imagine Adobe InDesign is maybe a bit against the open nature of the project, but I think I can help with any project that may need layout, maybe learn a new software if necessary. I'm also fluent is Spanish, if that ever is an interest for the project. Be happy to show some of my portfolio if somebody is interested!
I'm looking to find some RPG people to "what-if" with and help out wherever I can! I'm excited to be part of the community!

Re: New User Introductions
Hi everyone! I'm brand new to TTRPGs. Played a bit of MTG when I was younger, but no direct exposure to the TTRPG universe. Started looking around for a TTRPG to play and stumbled on Basic Fantasy. Was initially drawn to the low cost entry point, but soon discovered just how special the BF community is. I am a huge fan of the organic, fan supported approach to development. The community here seems so welcoming.
I had a copy of the 3rd edition and a few of the adventure modules, but life got in the way of starting to play. I've recently donated these books to a local community college that works with autistic students to develop communication and social skills. They use TTRPGs to assist with this work.
I'm will be purchasing the 4th edition of the rules and a few of the updated "CC" version of the adventure modules. A quick question about purchasing these books on Amazon (Canada). One of the books I'm interested in purchasing is the CC version of Chaotic Caves. On Amazon Canada, it says the publishing date is September 13, 2019. I saw in the Release Announcement thread that the CC version was released in April, 2024. Is there a way to ensure I am able to purchase the newest version of each book on Amazon? I hope this question is appropriate for this thread. Happy to move it elsewhere, if not.
Thanks!

It is the CC one, you can verify yourself by clicking on the read sample button and scrolling down to the third page (second past the cover) and you should see the creative commons copyright notice there.JRO wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 10:17 am One of the books I'm interested in purchasing is the CC version of Chaotic Caves. Plus covers without the crenelations on the left of the page are 4e ones.
No matter where you go...there you are

Thanks again to everyone who contributes!

Harry had me. I approved him, thinking he was real. But he had two pending posts requiring approval, and after I approved the one above I read the other one. It's a technically correct answer in the "Correct way to do attribution" thread that passed quite well for human and contained actual details. But it also contained a miniature, almost-hidden link; the robot jumped the gun and added the link before the coast was clear.
Harry Gross is outa here.

Re: New User Introductions
Hello fellow BF enthusiasts,
My module will be up in less than a week now. I will be putting requests up for art etc, as I'm sure people will want to contribute and doing all the art for a book by oneself is crazy, given that I'm sure the community want new modules asap.
I am just making some final typo amendments to side quests in my module and then I can pass this on to editing. Once the module is formatted to standard I will begin asking for contributors, such as art, playtesting and editing credits. Also, the creation of original monster and NPC stats would be great as I usually use the core book when I GM.
Big thanks to you all,
Lizzie

Re: New User Introductions
Hi everyone! I'm stoked to be here! I'm Tom and I've been playing "DnD" on and off for over 30 years. I've always been a DM first and a player second. I was first introduced to Dungeons and Dragons 1st edition when I was 16 and fell in love with world and adventure building! After a break to have kids, I introduced them to the game about 8 years ago. We picked up the new "DnD" rules and played an intro game.
I was floored at how complex it became. Melee/combat was too complex and while detail is good in storytelling, it impeded gameplay. So I searched around and found Basic Fantasy and Castles and Crusades. I use both systems to mix and match my campaign, focusing on storytelling and gameplay over complexity.
I have been writing game-neutral one-shot adventures (available on my Ko-fi for free) and plan on releasing a longer game after we finish test-playing it!
I'm looking forward to adding to the convo here!
Cheers!
Tom

Re: New User Introductions
Hello everyone,
I'm new to the forum and discovered this wonderful site a few weeks ago.
I began my TTRPG journey with the D&D Redbox and AD&D 1e. A friend introduced me to the game, and I've been hooked ever since.
I’ve played various RPGs, including D&D (except for 4th edition) and Shadowrun.
Nice to meet you all!
Best,
D.
