Re: New User Introductions
Started playing in '92 or so with AD&D2E. Progressed to 3E. Disillusioned with 3.5E (ignored Pathfinder). Latched on to the OSR as soon as it became a thing. Disappointed with Hackmaster 4E and C&C 1E. Meh with OSRIC, Labyrinth Lord, and early BFRPG (no offense, I didn't really look into it, my opinion was admittedly ignorant). S&W spoke to me. For a while. Long enough that I worked on it, and got credit for my work on the 2nd print (blue devil cover). Dream realized, Erol Otus on the cover and my name in the credits. Life was good for a minute.
Tenish years later S&W hideously mismanaged several times over. Personal opinion, no further comment. BF gets a fourth edition, telling the OGL to shove off. I appreciate that mentality and decide to look into it closer than I had before. I find I was incredibly wrong about this game. Similarly I had judged Hackmaster 5 to be meh when it came out and later found myself to be ignorant without cause.
I'm glossing over the majority of my gaming history, I have played and run a lot of games other than D&D clones over the decades. My favorite game is currently WFRP2E. I have purged roughly 80% of my collection over the last 10 years, BFRPG supplemental material has survived all these purges, and 4E itself will survive future purges.
While I may like this game or that game more, I now (for the last few years) recommend BFRPG as the starter point for anyone seeking to enter the OSR or teach D&D to their kids. I believe OSE or ShadowDark (etc) are overpriced and effectively lesser options in comparison.

Welcome! I share a somewhat-similar experience as well as opinion on the various OSR rule-sets out there
Re: New User Introductions
Hello all,
New user here. I've been aware of Basic Fantasy for years now. Always hearing OSR/Classic RPG youtube channels mentioning Basic Fantasy (more so recently) so I finally decided to order a print copy for myself.
I'd like to show support and possibly contribute. I have some old art I'll be posting and hopefully something will be found to be useful.
Thanks.

Only just learned of BF, but I'm intrigued enough to have ordered half a dozen books - can't wait for the Amazon truck this week! - and sign up for the forums! Seems like an amazing community of creative RPG enthusiasts and a key driver of what makes the OSR thrive.
My introduction to D&D was with B/X at the age of 8. First started DMing with the Red Box a few months later. Disappointed (to put it mildly) with WoTC's stewardship of the IP. The game has lost some of the best of the RPG experience with more recent versions so I was jazzed to discover this product and community is keeping the beating heart of classing role-playing alive and well.
Excited to meet you all and to become a small part of such a special group of people.

Re: New User Introductions
Hi there! New user from Europe. I was introduced to RPG by my big brother many years ago (AD&D 1st ed!) and discovered the world of OSR by recently looking for simple rules to entertain my child. Had no idea there was such a great quality product, and under an open license on top of it. This is a great project, with a nice community. Hoping to contribute, with a LaTeX version I posted in the Workshop to facilitate conversions.
Re: New User Introductions
Greetings and felicitations children of technology! I started gaming back in 87 with the Mentzer Red Box, quickly "graduated" to the Advanced Edition just as it was coming to a close. Got into 2nd Edition when a freind of mine traded his books to me for my 3rd Edition GURPS game. Played that out to the bitter end, occasionally delving into other systems, mostly Cyberpunk 2020, Vampire the Masquerade, Marvel Super Heroes, and various Palladium offerings. Went along with my group to D&D 3.X, which I knew I'd hate running (I was my group's forever GM by then), but kept at it, failing every game I ran lol. Eventually found my way to the OSR through Labyrinth Lord when I saw it had a free PDF version. No way that was legal! I thought, but there it was, with new games popping up all over the place. I have many of them on my shelves (far too many) these days, but have recently decided that for now I'm focusing on BFRPG as my primary game, as it's easy for bifocaled eyes to see, has softcover options, and is affordable as all out. At the moment, I don't have a group that will play TSR/OSR games, so I play solo. I like posting my adventures on various sites, because I like reading other people's and maybe they'd like to read mine. My user name comes from one of my favorite songs by the Stooges, literally named 1970. Anyway, that's me in too many words. I hope to become a regular poster and share my adventures here Good bye, so long, and thanks for all the fish.

New User Introduction
I just begun to play RPG because I were rebel when I was 12 (and I'm sorry for that) and fled from home to visit an store that sells old books and magazines and found there an Mortal Kombat 4 hack for 3D&T, an Brazilian system that emulates games, animes, super sentai and things like these. Starting from there I fastly met the love of my "nerd" life, D&D 3e, and eventually I met the ORS movement and so finally came to know BF RPG.

Thanks! The avatar was a character from a webcomic by Michael Lalonde called Orneryboy, which I believe was created during the height or at the beginning of the downswing of Goth popularity, named Brian, a rapping, martial artist zombie. It's long gone by now unfortunately, but the Avatars he created still remain, and can be found here for anyone who's interested.

Re: New User Introductions
Hrmm, well then, I suppose it all started back on a bright Summer day - no wait, back then we walked barefoot uphill both ways in the snow - no wait, it was most likely Summer, I don't quite remember, honestly. But it would have been around '81-'82 and there were some kids from a grade ahead of me that were all sitting around with pieces of paper, rolling these strange dice I'd never seen before, cheering each other on one moment, being drastically serious the next, and of course that meant one thing!
"Mom!!!! I want to play too!!!"
I couldn't even begin to guess how many different games I spent my allowance on (and likely more than my allowance looking back at it) on buying RPGs out the wazoo. Whether it was at actual game shops, bookstores, or the random lucky trove at a Goodwill - I was hooked.
Unfortunately, there was the tendency to move, change schools, and all the rest - so often I'd end up just creating characters myself, and taking them on adventures myself - as I got older, I found myself playing less even as I still bought book after book from genre after genre, it was just a case of thoroughly enjoying the worlds these games had created.
So how did I end up here? Just a random suggestion on DriveThruRPG and it took me back to that "Mom!!! I want to play too!!!" that had gotten lost away. There's definitely something that's been lost in the way some of the games have evolved as they've added more and more and more. Instead of them being a happy handful of sprinkles on top of a sundae, it's like they've gathered a dozen tubs of Country Crock and have offered a crock of...I'll end my post there.
