Combining Druid, Magic User and Cleric
Combining Druid, Magic User and Cleric
Would it be unbalancing to envelope the Druid, Magic User and Cleric into one class? Basically the three would be variants of the Wizard. They could cast any of the spells from the 3 lists but a Druid would be better casting the Druid spells, Magic User better at casting the magic user spells and the Cleric better at casting the Cleric spells. Each would also have a special ability. Druid would have the animal friends power, the cleric would get turn undead and magic user arcane bolt. They would all have d4 HP, same saving throws, attack bonus, spell progression, sense magic and experience. So basically they would pick the Magic User class and then select one of the 3 variant specialties. Would that balance out?

Moved to general because no actual doc or material shared.
If this produces something we can move back then.
As to the idea, intriguing idea. Allows a lot more versatility while simplifying classes overall.

Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

Yeah since someone made necromancer and illusionist could make those variants as well.
Additionally trying to figure out how to make each variant better at casting their specific spells. Like either make their speciality spells more potent when they cast them or making it harder for them to cast their non-specialty spells. Any thoughts how to accomplish that mechanicly?

Re: Combining Druid, Magic User and Cleric
If its just the core MU with access to just one spell list and one special ability I don't think it would unbalance things. Some kind of white and green magicians or a less battle-trained cleric class is not something unheard of.
You can expand the options by adding others spell list.
Want more options? Let the special ability be chosen individually of the spell list.
Want even more options? Separate the spell acquisition and preparation from the list, so you can have characters studying clerical spells and other praying for MU spells.
