If it comes close enough, Grumm will try to hold it off with the glaive, inflicting damage if possible, just keeping it at bay if not. Otherwise, he will retreat with Arven.

Ok then, Shybolt will take the torch from the wall and holding both torches, he will wait to see what it does first. If it starts to advance through the flames he will kick over the oil barrel (so that it spills toward the creature), wait till the others back away, and then back away and toss in one of the torches.

He'll also say, "Someone watch behind us in case all this attracts the attention of others"

"Oh ye of little faith, I am forever watchful in that regard." Brother Arven walks carefully down the hall to the intersection (He will wait til the others come this far before proceeding in the direction of the inn, not towards the hungry thing in the hole.)

Timorel sticks with the party, leading the retreat to the intersection. He is ready to throw the oil if the thing gets close enough, and still has his sword ready as well. He keeps an eye in the opposite direction from the thing for trouble as well.

(BTW, if I didn't mention it earlier, Shybolt has followed Timorel's lead and tied a wet cloth over his mouth and nose.

The monster struggled to its feet and tried to shake off the flames, but to no avail. Grumm could see it clearly now, and saw that its face was reptilian in nature, not unlike the troglodytes he had recently faced.

Though its eye sockets seemed vacant, Grumm could almost feel its angry glare upon him. The thing charged forward suddenly, and Shybolt kicked over a barrel of oil in its path, causing new flames to flare up. But the monster didn't stops its advance, and though Grumm landed a mighty blow upon it, he was unable to keep it away from him. He felt a strange coldness as the monster touched him.

Everyone has initiative on the monster for the next round except Shybolt. Grumm has taken 3 points of damage, but he may still act; further effects of the monster's touch, if any, are not apparent as yet.

Grumm is going to try a fighting retreat - i.e. attack, but with whatever movement he has move back away from the monster.

Shybolt will step up to his side, using the torch in his left hand for defense and his sword in his right. He will also use fighting withdrawal.

(OOC: How fast does this thing move. We were already 50' from the door so we were either 40 or 50' from the beast after it fell in the flames just outside the door. {or maybe I read that part wrong} and since we had initiative we all decided to retreat. I would have thought our movement rate would have taken us out of its reach.)

Timorel continues backing up, giving Grumm and Shybolt plenty of room to retreat into. He keeps his weapons ready in case there's an opening, and he keeps an eye out for anything coming the other way.

(OOC: I'll be traveling today and tomorrow, so I probably won't post again until Sunday.)

Grumm said "otherwise, he'd retreat" so I assumed, when the monster got up and ran at him, he'd hold it off, as he stated. This made the main battle between Grumm and the monster at the edge of the flames. Had he indicated intent to retreat in all cases, your version might have happened. However, the monster has a higher movement rate than your armored selves, so it would eventually catch you. This way, at least it's still on fire.
