To Search, or Not to Search

Post Mon Sep 12, 2011 6:42 am

Now that the brief skirmish is over, you get an opportunity to have a proper look around the room. It appears to be some sort of common room or living quarters for the bandits. Aside from the card table and chairs, there are an assortment of bedrolls in the north-east corner. The chamber is lit by two simple wicked bowls of oil - one on the card table and another on a natural rock shelf protruding from the middle of the eastern wall.

A cursory search of the bodies and the room yields a total of 37 silver pieces.

As it happens, a couple of the bandits are a roughly Hiker's size and he could take their leather armour if he wished to do so*.

Are you going to commence a more rigorous search of the room for secret doors, etc. (at a time cost of 10 minutes per character per 10’ of wall), or you going to follow Tannen’s advice of pressing on?

((* I don’t completely recall the original reasons behind Hiker’s decision not wear armour (a bold move for any 1st level character!). I think it had something to do with his simple, somewhat impoverished upbringing. But I can well imagine that he may well now wish to don armour, if only to emulate his warrior heroes, Karl and Tannen.))

Karl, satisfied that there is no immediate threat or obviously useful (for the search) items, retrieves and reloads his crossbow. "That fella looks about your size, Hiker. His armor'd fit, if you want it." He moves back towards the door to head out. "We'd best get movin'."

Nivek nods in agreement and moves into position with the others.

ooc: do we have a marching order while traveling passages? If we care to make a 'standard marching order' then Nivek would be near the forward portion (as he is effectively a melee warrior until proper clerical spells come into play at 2nd level and beyond).
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

Doughbert picks up all the coins he can and any other valuables then moves to follow the others out.

OOC: Tannen was leading before. Doughbert is not opposed to bringing up the rear again.

ooc: again, sorry for the unexpected absence, my lovely cable company cut a line and took their sweet time getting us back online. will they refund me two weeks? heck no....

Missing out on a chance to shoot someone else, Hiker had been scanning the room looking for signs of Miss Alma. "Where is she? Is she here? Where's Miss Alma? I thought she'd be here..." He looked genuinely confused.

ooc: should combat ensue again, Hiker will shoot first and get a headache thinking of questions later. But for now the poor lad is focused on how close he may be to rescuing the matron.

This was the previously stated marching order (page96):

Tannen/Karl
Nivek/Hiker
Doughbert/Paladin

I'll assume you maintain this for general travel within the caves until you tell me otherwise.

Where to next?

You re-assemble outside the bandits' common room. Where to next?

Tannen's map (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=251) is more or less up to date. Your currently standing just south of the ajar door.

((Can I just clarify - did Hiker take a suit of leather armour from the bandits? If so please update your inventory accordingly.))

Paladin gives the others the halfling salute as he rejoins them. Battle was loud, but not too loud. No motion in the corridors, he reports.

Tannen nods his head in the direction of the long tunnel to the northwest. "We'd best check that way. Smells like that's where they keep their horses, but we'd best make sure that Alma's not up there." Then looking at Hiker, "We'll find her, just keep that bow at the ready".

Tannen then readies his sword and shield and slowly heads up the passageway towards the 'gate' he observed earlier.
