Greetings all. I hope you will welcome me into your forums. I've recently burnt out on DMing a Pathfinder campaign (no disrespect to Pathfinder, I like the game) and I decided to go back to my roots. I downloaded the BFRPG rules and liked what I saw and my group have agreed to play in a BFRPG campaign. I must congratulate and thank the developers of the BFRPG for bringing it to us and most importantly for making it available free online. I was so impressed with it that I bought the book from lulu and it arrived this morning, it's lovely. I know that one other member of my group has bought the book too and you can probably expect another three to do so in the coming weeks. It just goes to show that giving away rpgs in .pdf form actually can sell books; we gamers like books. This is the roleplaying game of my youth brought up-to-date, the bathwater's thrown out but the baby is safe. Nice work. Really. Nice work.

I will be running a BFRPG campaign set in the D&D setting of Mystara and I've spent all my free time over the last week putting together a campaign website for my players.

Greetings and welcome!! Your experience in turning back to simpler roots is becoming a common theme that repeats itself often. I believe BFRPG is the best destination for those who have played the newer editions such as 3.x, pathfinder, and others, whom actually like and appreciate some aspects of those newer games yet long for a bit simpler experience. BFRPG is the experience of the Classic Games with a few innovations thrown in. There are other really great retro-games (and originals) out there but they all tend to purposely ignore the fact there actually are some good ideas that can be drawn from modern incarnations.

Enjoy playing again without quite so many rules!

Thanks everyone. I decided against Mystara and went with converting my homebrewed world to Basic Fantasy. My group has bought a 3rd book now and they're really pleased with the speedy character generation, especially our resident glassjaw.

Thanks. While I play face-to-face, we've been using the maptool Vtt for battlemaps at the table. But I've decided that we'll be going back to the tabletop and minis again. For everything that tech adds there's something that tech takes away.

Agreed.. but I love using maptools in my games because I can use it as a mapping tool and a virtual Battlemap by zooming into the area where the fight takes place. Plus the Internet+Token Tool is alot cheaper than buying a ton of miniatures.
