Re: Great Way Adepts
OSRIC gives thieves a chance to read languages along with their normal skills.
From hearsay on the blogosphere it's my understanding that at least one of the old editions of DnD had this as well.

Call me Joe. Mr. Munkey is my father.
Re: Great Way Adepts
Yes, ADandD has it, starting at 4th level. But it is not in core rules here.
I'm just pointing out an edit, or a small bug to be sorted out by anyone else who wishes to use the class.
For my own game I have decided the GWA does not have this read languages ability. He's pretty much a badass anyway.

Re: Great Way Adepts
Ooops, as others have stated this is an error. No Read Languages for GWA. I'll submit an update ASAP.Longman wrote:A query -
The great way adept supplement says that Monks are learned individuals and can read languages as a thief of the 1st level.
But the core rules make no mention of thieves being able to read languages - that I can see, anyway.
Do you think this class feature is based on a different thief class?
edit - by the way, the supplement plays well in my game.
Thanks for pointing this out!
Re: Great Way Adepts
Here is the updated file, I'll forward it to Solomoriah now.

One question of my own:Longman wrote: edit - by the way, the supplement plays well in my game.
How does it compare to Fighters?
Especially regarding attack rolls and amounts of damage dished out.

Seems likely...Longman wrote:Do you think this class feature is based on a different thief class?

Re: Great Way Adepts
The character in question is 5th level. His extra movement rate is very noticeable in play. He uses heal all the time, but hasn't used Tumbling, Qi Strike or MInd Over Body at all. His Stunning Strike comes into play sometimes.artikid wrote:One question of my own:Longman wrote: edit - by the way, the supplement plays well in my game.

He does 2 attacks for 1d6+2 per attack, each attack at +6 (he is very strong).
I think that is fine, but he also has a really high base AC for someone who gets all the advantages of wearing no armor. If you wanted to change the supplement to make the class more balanced, I would personally change the rate at which base AC increased, so it was once every 2 or 3 levels to begin with instead of every level.
The rate of attacks and damage is pretty high, but that's part of the fun.

Thank you for the feedback Longman!Longman wrote: ... His extra movement rate is very noticeable in play...

Basically the combination of high speed and high AC seems to be too much, is that it?
I might tone them down a bit, both of them.
EDIT: look at the attached R3 file:
Lower AC progression, lower movement bonus and a +1 to melee armed damage every 3 levels instead of every 2 levels.
What do you think?

Seems better to me ! My only experience with the GWA is being a player in Longman PBP though.artikid wrote:Thank you for the feedback Longman!Longman wrote: ... His extra movement rate is very noticeable in play...

But you forgot to remove the part about the read languages ability

The new file you'll find attached is correct now, I tweaked AC even more.
I'll wait to see if there's more feedback before sending this to Solomoriah.
Cheers
EDIT: another change to AC progression
