To clarify: Put away his bloody tools?

He attempts to wipe as much of the blood as possible from his tools with a scrap of cloth he tore from his blanket. He'll throw the scrap of cloth onto the corner of the hall, then put away his tools.

Brother Arven prays a quiet prayer asking for protection as they prepare to open the bloody door.
Player: I drink the potion!
DM: Are you sure you want to do that?
Player: Um, no. Maybe, Why, do you think it would be stupid?

Grumm will put a cloth over his hand, and use the handle to open the door just a tiny bit - enough so that it is unlatched. He'll then give everyone a look to make sure they're ready, and finally open the door with a kick - not a mega-kick, just enough to cause it to swing open.

Apparently I've made it unclear... the handle doesn't appear to move. The fact that Grumm couldn't push it open with the troglodyte finger, and the presence of a keyhole, is what tipped him off that it was locked.

Grumm gave a mighty kick and the door flew open. Beyond, they could see a large room, at least thirty feet across, with a door opposite. Shadowy figures stood on either side of the far door, in poses of readiness, unmoving.

"Hallo there!" Timorel calls out. "Who might you fellows be?"

From Timorel's position, does the room seem to be lit inside in any way? Also, is there any sign of what had been glistening when he looked through the openings around the door?

The room is illuminated only by your torch(es).

The shadowy figures did not respond to Timorel's challenge; they just stood unmoving, waiting for the adventurers to enter.

Grumm: "Shall we light a couple torches and throw them in?"

"My thought exactly," Timorel says quietly.

Shybolt looks over Grumm's shoulder at what he can see of the ceiling and the floor and the walls. Is there any sign of more blood? Then says, "You reckon those are creatures or statues? I'm not apposed to throwing in a few torches. Heck, I am not apposed to sending a few arrows into those things next to the door either."
