Recharging items

Post Wed Jan 25, 2017 2:20 pm

Howdy all!

I'm playing in a BFRPG game, and running another right now. In the game where I'm a player, I've got a level 7 M-U with a Staff of Power. It's down to it's last 7 charges, and we're talking about having it recharged. (Not sure if the version in the core rules is rechargeable, but we decided this one is, because we play with limited numbers of magic items in our game).

Reading the core rules again, I find a lot of information about making rechargeable items, but I'm not finding anything on how to actually -recharge- them. Am I missing it? Are there any guidelines, or is it all sort of handwavy, and up to the individual groups to decide?

Thanks!
The Hooded Man will come to the forest, there to meet with Herne the Hunter, to be his son and do his bidding.

I can't find anything about recharging, maybe using the table for time and cost for charges?

I would use the value of the current amount of charges +1 to set the cost, time and penalty of the new charge recovered.

I'm actually not sure why we didn't include recharging items in those rules... maybe we need a supplement.

I'd be interested to see what you come up with. My GM and I are working on some ideas now, but more input is always helpful. Might be something to include in the next edition of the game?

Working on my phone after 3 hours of sleep warning!

I seem to recall something in the cost of spell research that apples to both manufacture and recharging of items.

In my campaign, staves recharge slowly at the rise of the new moon. That's slow enough of a recharge that the players don't waste charges.

Wands are not rechargeable. I use a different twists on wands. Instead I give up rings of spell storing which are totally rechargeable by the party and everybody can use those. But for an adventure, they are basically one use items.

I wrote a supplement that describes channeling spells. It provides a completely different way to consider how wands/staves with spells effects.
It is my preference over the traditional charged items.
Worth a look.
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?
