Yes, there is writing on the cover. Just stalling while I figure out of YC can actually read languages or not.

In the meantime - the keys are now obtained. YC has it. There's a scroll case left too. Anyone want to open it?

Plus a door in the south wall...

Maju will take the scroll case and place it in his satchel (without opening it). Also, he'll look at the cover of the book to see if he can read it.

It appears Maju has now entered the new room.

He moves over to where the monk is and takes a look at the cover.

He has no idea what is says. Read Languages spell or Read Magic could work.

I've decided the monk cannot decipher it with any read languages ability he might have. So, no one can read it yet.

Kanya will take a cursory look at the dead monkeys. Were they embalmed or dissected in any way?

Jaali is considering YC advice of not touching the cylinders, but will still look at them closely, trying to figure out bad things that could happen if he touches them.

Looking for traps.

After looking at the book closely, Maju says, "I have a spell or two that might allow me to read this, but it will take some preparation. I won't be able to read it until tomorrow. In the mean time, I suggest that we absolutely do not open it. If you like, I can hold onto it until we know what it is." Since he is a scholar, Maju is deeply interested in deciphering this text.

Kanja - this is not embalming. Nor is it anything to do with undeath. You are familar with both, and this ain't either. You are becoming curious as to what the clear liquid that was being injected into the bodies of these creatures might be.

They are dusty, but otherwise well preserved, but it must be by magic.

Jaali - you do not think (after a hidden dice roll) that there are any traps on the cylinders. The pain priestess is also peering at them.

Maju - you now have the book in your possession. There's a scroll tube as well, remember. I think the monk took the keys already.

YC is in the room. The elf is outside in the hallway. Teruk and Co have left. Apinya is being an ass, pointing his pistol at the inanimate monkeys and making stupid noises. He is not the brightest.

I think Maju already picked up the scroll case…

He's uneasy opening it in this place in case it automatically animates the apes (or something like that). Furthermore, he can't read it until he casts Read Magic, which he doesn't have memorized right now (unless I misunderstand how that works).

Later, Jaali. Let's explore this other room first.
