Chapter 2: The Land of Sulan

Kanya's eyes narrow at the snub, but she says nothing.

[mTeasdale]

"I thought your kind hated pointy weapons anyway, Kanya"

[Woe]

"You have such unusual beliefs. Whyever would you think I hate ... 'pointy weapons' as you put it?"

[Longman]

Maju says:

Listen, why don't I just send the bird in first? Then you can keep your sword in your scabbard. Unless you two want to be alone for a while...

He sends the bird to scout over the village as you walk down the path that morning. The bees...do not even come close to attacking you. You use the darkness briefly and there's a few stubbed toes and bruised knees and quite a lot of swearing, but you manage to get through the area OK.

The bird comes back, hopping with excitement.

'Ogres! Big men! All white skin! 9 feet tall! Big swords! Wow! 2 of them! Plus some other natives with them. Carrying skulls! They have whips! They force the villagers to dig! Digging in the ground! One big hole! Kree! Kree!'

Altair rolls his eyes at the over-excited falcon.

Teruk says he doesn't know why the ogres are forcing people to dig. That wasn't happening when he and his men left the village.

We should attack. We can handle two ogres and some villages, if the witch-doctor isn't there, he says.

You can send Jaali and the monk in now for some more detailed scouting, if you want. Or you can just go in. Tell me if you want a tactical map.

[mTeasdale]

"I think that Yuan-Cheng and I still should do some scouting around the village. Maybe we can get to know why the ogres want to dig a hole and we have to make sure the witch doctor isn't there with them. What do you think Yuan ?"

[quozl]

Yuan-Cheng nods his agreement. "Let's go as soon as possible. We scout now then attack at night."

[SerGavin]

Ogres eh? Saracen draws his scimitar and loads his rifle. I've heard that they're quite difficult to kill... I say we see if there's any truth to that. I'm not exactly the image of health at the moment so I hope you don't mind if I hang back and pick at them with my rifle?

[quozl]

"Perhaps you could make an arrangement with Kanya so you could be fully healed for the fight. I suggest offering something other than tea."

[Woe]

"Attacking at night is not wise. Perhaps sunup would be a better choice. Other than Fhajah, none of us can see in the dark. We'll be lit up like beacons of light and be easy pickings for archers and wizards. Or, we'll be stumbling around in the dark and not able to see our own targets."

[quozl]

"I didn't think that we would be lit up. I was thinking more that the village would be lit up after sneaking in and killing the leader while he sleeps."
