This topic has come up repeatedly in the time I have been on here (about 10 months).

Of course the matter is always up to the DM, but a basic price list does help, especially for a new DM or someone who is a bit time-pressed.

I think the best thing to do is get a hold of a copy of Unearthed Arcana or the Dungeon Master's Guide from D and D 1st edition. Use the price lists in there as a starter.

Of course, that doesn't mean that even a fraction of the items listed there are actually for sale. It just gives you a handy base price and costing scale to start working out the prices in your own campaign.

Generally speaking, IMC, as they say, adventurers don't buy or create magical items. That's what retirees do, bless their hearts, not active adventurers.

This is the same advice I was given and I took it an ran with it. The UA is a very nice source for pricing magical items. I also use something else and for the life of me I can't remember what it is (I've got it saved on my desktop at work and printed off a few of the pages for use at home) and it lists magic items of all kinds. It also lists the XP value for those items in case you are inclined to use them in your games. I'll look at it tomorrow and reply here with what it is called.

Sorry about the link

But anyway, to answer the OP, 1st edition D and D has price lists that are pretty compatible with BFRPG, in my view.

Try this thread -

http://basicfantasy.org/forums/viewtopi ... agic+items

Now surely that link is OK!

One of the reasons the 1e DM guide still gets so much use!
