Community World Building
Reviving this topic; viewtopic.php?f=2&t=562&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=village
But this time I'm going to try something different. I will ask a question and everyone who wants to participate will respond. After I get a few responses I will ask another question. I will then apply everything collected and add it to the starter setting I have in the works.
Lets Begin!
Name one of the secrets of Spiral Keep.

Spiral Keep is actually hewn out of the fossilized shell of an enormous conch slain long ago by unknown parties. That's why it's so tall and spiral-shaped.

I love that.LibraryLass wrote:Spiral Keep is actually hewn out of the fossilized shell of an enormous conch slain long ago by unknown parties. That's why it's so tall and spiral-shaped.
Here's a couple ideas that I'm just going to throw out.
- Time stands still when you're in Spiral Keep
- Spiral Keep hides the entrance to an underground dungeon/dwarven fortress/etc.
- The walls of Spiral Keep are lined with dragon scales (which could give the keep certain resistances depending on what dragon the scales came from - Red Dragon gives an extra resistance to fire/burning down, etc.)
- Spiral Keep is haunted by the ghost of an ancient eccentric mage but nobody knows why
Use what you can, change it, scrap it - I make no claims that the ideas are actually any good...just that they are ideas.
The problem with doing something really stupid to impress people is that they may just be impressed by how stupid you really are.

The secret of Spiral Keep is that every third door (or randomly) is actually a door shaped portal that looks into the first room you enter when you come into the spiral keep. So when people enter it they are actually entering the first room all over again.

Good stuff so far. Just a few more ideas and we can move onto the next question.

Everyone that enters the keep speak the same language.
If you have the correct key to the correct door, it allows you to step through the door and into another realm.

Alright unless anyone wants to add a thing or two more (which you're more than welcome too) then its time for the next topic.
Name the ten most important NPC's of the small seaside hamlet of Sandyshore.
Its a small sized town located along the coast near an important shipping lane. It is host to more outsiders than most folk would suspect and is a hotbed of intrigue between spies working for rival nations and guilds. Despite all its secrets the town is mostly indicitive of other small villages in the Princessipality.

Re: Community World Building
I got three slightly created:
The Lightman: This is a person that mans the tower which holds the burning oil in a shallow pan. This gives ships at night or in a storm a warning that there is land ahead. Unknown to anyone, he is the leader of a group of smugglers. He uses additional lanterns to send messages to the smugglers.
D’lynn: She is a lady of the night and plies her trade between dusk and dawn. Unknown to the local townspeople she is a vampire that uses the people as her herd, always careful to drink enough without killing then healing any sign of it.
The Sargent of the Guard: He and his men patrol the streets, looking for anybody that is breaking the Mayors laws. Unknown to anyone but his men, they are actually scouts for religious order that is on the lookout for a holy relic that was lost in the area.
