The Uncharted Basement - a solitaire adventure, levels 1-2

Post by Wing_department »

This a solitaire adventure, choose-your-own-adventure style. Inspired, believe it or not, by the example dungeon map from the Core Rules. It was originally going to be called "Sample Dungeon Blues" but it didn't sound right in the end.

The adventure takes you on a journey through a non-euclidan dungeon. If you have a habit of drawing maps of the environments you explore, then tough luck - this one is very weird.

I would really appretiate some feedback and criticism. I am trying to find the best way to write a solitaire adventure and want to know if this method is the way to go forward or not.

Here's the start of r2. This is a good idea, but for it to really work you're gonna need cross-references. A lot of them, ie for every single entry a player is expected to jump to.

I've done the first three. Here's the run-down:

Highlight the entry number you want the player to jump to
Insert > Cross-reference

Type > Set Reference
In the "Name" field, type in "Entry xx" and click "Insert"
Then click "Close"

Now highlight the number you want the player to click on (ie jump from)
Insert > Cross-reference

Type > Insert Reference
Under "Refer using:", choose "Referenced text"
Then choose the correct listing on the right side and click "Insert"
Then click "Close"

Note that now in LO clicking on a reference doesn't do anything (security setting; you have to Ctrl+Click). The generated PDF, however, works normally.

Ah, yes, cross-references. I knew I had forgotten something. Thank you for the reminder, I will get to it today.

Release r3 added to the first post.
Added cross-references, changed the layout a little bit, a new illustration.

I'm thinking no that the HELP paragraph system might be annoying rather than interesting but they are now an integral part of the adventure and they're not going anywhere.

The word solitaire is used in the adventure description and text. If you are meaning an adventure you undertake alone or by yourself, wouldn't solitary be the word you're looking for?

Firstly, and most importantly, it's how old Tunnels and Trolls used to title themselves. I look up to them and try to recapture their sense of wonder. "Solitaire" is just how I'm used to call these in my head.
Second of all, when I hear "solitary", I think of prison. It's probably just me but still.

And I don't call it "solo adventures" because it would be confusing - Solomoriah is often called just "Solo" and he writes adventures. BF1 Morgansfort, for example, is a Solo adventure made for 2-8 characters.

I think "solo adventures" is the accepted form.

Just no caps.
