Galactic Encounters Role-Playing Game
Re: Basic Scifi Role-Playing Game
You have to consider that SFRPG would create confusion at least with the genre and Starfinder.
Best thing to do is to decide what feeling should the name invoke. Galactic Voyages and Unknown Stars invoke the feeling of old sci-fi books, but they're not very catchy and memorable.
I like Starlight Machine RPG, Bright Star RPG and Nebula Explorers RPG.

Re: Basic Scifi Role-Playing Game
I don't like Starlight Machine... I don't get it. And I'm not fond of Nebula Explorers because I don't want to build a psychological limitation into the game's name (what if they want to play traders, or lawmen?) I don't hate Bright Star but I'm not sold on it either.
Curiously, I found myself explaining Basic Fantasy RPG (the name) to someone a little while ago, and it's making me rethink renaming. I really feel like the similarity in names is a plus rather than a minus; I intend to build the same sort of community around it, if I can.
Okay, this is clunky, but... Basic Galactic RPG?

Galactic Encounter RPG.
Nobody appears to be using the name, or anything like it. It limits almost nothing, implies almost nothing, just says you're out in the galaxy having encounters.

BGRPG sounds nice, I like this one.
Re: Basic Scifi Role-Playing Game
GERP (if we leave out "Game") - is a good acronym.
Galactic Encounters Role Playing - I like the "s" on encounters.
Galactic Encounters Role Playing - I like the "s" on encounters.
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?
Re: Basic Scifi Role-Playing Game
Just make sure that GERP isn't considered infringement by SJG. They've always seemed like they aren't ridiculous about things, but you never know.
I would imagine, however, that GERPG is perfectly safe, though.

I don't like GERP. GERPG works for me.
I think I'm going to go with this one. Before someone else decides to use it.

Re: Basic Scifi Role-Playing Game
First thing I thought of was Stars without Number and White Star. But I think it's a pretty good name, lets you know it's an exploration scifi rpg.Solomoriah wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 3:53 pm Nobody had a comment on Unknown Stars? It's about the only thing I've thought of that's not used somewhere...
