Re: The Dark Temple

Hmm, good point. I assumed the dagger/double dagger were enough; it's why my own adventures never include the asterisk after the name. Mainly, I just don't care for how it looks; since the information is presented as the very next data point (the AC score), I generally omit the asterisk.

I am open to discussion though.

I have to admit I forgot about that; you're correct that the single/double dagger is indeed sufficient. I think that's how it should be done (both in docs and the style guide).

But, now that makes me wonder why have an asterisk on the name at all (in core and field guides), if the daggers show the same information (if the reason is anything besides that's the way B/X did it...).

You hit the nail on the head. It's the only reason I do it.

Technically, any monster that has special requirements to kill (which a random party can't always fulfill) should get this mark.

Good point. Chi, what do you think about this? I'm on the fence.
It not only could be confused with Al's entry, it could potentially confusingly point back to CS1. I'm leaning towards changing it to the dark temple (capitalized or not).

Yes, I think several of the authors were thinking that this adventure is a next-door neighbor to the Castle by the Sea... :D But it's understandable.

r4 in Projects.

- added blurbs for Children of Zewlac and Descent Into Culwich
- removed asterisks from stat-blocks along with lots of other corrections
- corrected magical weapon and armor naming
- edited run-on sentences and clarified many other items

Thanks to whomever added the room descriptions for my entry! :)

I did some of them, but I don't think I did them all.

I also made another editing pass and did the following:

Put two spaces between sentences. This is in the Basic Fantasy Style Guide.

Page 3 – St. Dagon’s Cove paragraph 1
Changed “Temple by the Sea” to “Dark Temple”.

Page 4 – Long John Ahab’s Tale of woe – Boxed Text paragraph 1
Changed “Temple by the Sea” to “Dark Temple”.

Page 6 – paragraph 1
Changed “Temple by the Sea” to “Dark Temple”.

Page 6 – The Zewlac Cult – Item 7
Changed “Temple by the Sea” to “Dark Temple”.

Page 7 – Travel from St. Dagon’s Cove to … header
Changed “Temple by the Sea” to “Dark Temple”.

Page 8 – 5 Kitchen – Monster description
Capped the first C of the “Cultist cooks”

Page 9 – 8 Canein Unit: paragraph 1
Changed “1d4+1” to 1d4+2” to match the time given in room 1.

Page 36 – Wandering Monsters
Added blurb about which Basic Fantasy Field Guide the Quasit and Grimlock are from to monster descriptions.

I've put a copy of The Dark Temple R5 in the Projects folder of Dropbox.

Here are some things that I had questions about:

Should the Animated Armor (Horror Within – Room 21), Flashbags and Awful Offal (Three Days of Peace and Music) be added to the Basic Fantasy Field Guide Volume 3 since they are new monsters?

Page 44 – Three Days of Peace and Music – 16a. OUBLIETTE (upper)
The Yellow Mold in the room doesn’t have any HP blocks.
Also the AC is given as a 17 when the description in the Basic Fantasy Core Rules is “Can always be hit”.

Page 50 – Three Days of Peace and Music – 33 Grand Hall – 2nd paragraph after 2nd text box.
Which word is better; apprehended or comprehended?
Currently:
The swirling apparition on the far wall is the gate, and the strange thing seen within is Vheld’broggn itself, although its full form can not yet be apprehended.
Should be?
The swirling apparition on the far wall is the gate, and the strange thing seen within is Vheld’broggn itself, although its full form can not yet be comprehended.

Does each module need the maps for Rooms 17 and 18 or can they be included in the maps at the end of the book?

Can room numbers be added to Pytheas map so we know that Rooms 17 and 18 are in the foreground and 16a and 21 are at the back of the map?
