OOC: I thought YC already has a bat of his own to deal with?

Rostam will try to shoot the bat that is currently attacking Maju.

Rostam fires at the bat on the mage, but misses.
Yuan-Chang does indeed have a bat on him and I'd rule that he deals with it rather than going to help the captain. He hits it, and it flaps away in pain. His parting shot is a miss.
Maju waves his torch at the bat on him and connects. This bat also flies away.

There is now only one bat remaining on the captain, which also elects to fly away as even more NPC characters emerge from the stairwell.

Good job defending the ship (although this encounter was quite easy.)

Morning comes. We're now into day 18, 6am. The monk can easily recover his single hit point lost. There is no sign of any strange rabies infection or the like...

Any further instructions for the day? or just repairs as normal? Also Maju needs new spells.

Maju settles into a cabin (10c - top right cabin) where he can recuperate and study his arts. The encounter with the bats has impressed upon him the need to be at least moderately capable in combat. Therefore he has studied a new spell set - one that now includes a few uses of Magic Missile, at the cost of reading languages, which he shouldn't need to do anytime soon.

He maintains his other spells - especially ESP, which he plans on using daily on the ship's crew (without their knowing, of course) in hopes of early warning for any nefarious activities.

He also sends Mini out each night to sneak around and listen for discussions among the crew, and generally keep an eye on things. Maju expects a report each morning from the wart-covered amphibian.

Too bad Teruk already left. He might know whether these bats are pets of the skull cult or merely beasts acting according to their nature.

Rostam is all for getting the ship back in the water.

The toad familiar comes back from his nighttime wanderings and reports that nothing suspicious was said by any of the crew, although he has to be careful because otherwise people will throw him off the ship. (No one really knows he is your familiar yet - and wouldn't talk in front of him if they did). But the crew are certainly not planning mutiny as far as he can gather.

well, no response from either of the others so I'll push on.

Day 18 rolls on - - and you eat your final day of rations wile reparing the ship. Nothing happens.

Day 19 - it is 6am and you are ready to sail!

The wind is from the north west, and it will allow you to travel about 8 hexes per day. If you had more crew, you can go 16 hexes. (There's no hexes marked in the water on the map but you can estimate.)

download/file.php?id=2127

If you want to explore the west side of the island your first day would probably be going 4 hexes north to avoid the reef, and then 4 hexes west.

Any thoughts?

Sounds good.

Jaali will try to spend some time with the caprain, asking a few questions and trying the best he can to be of any help.

Yes, let's do that. Also, YC will bunk with the crew. He wants to be seen as just one of the men.

The captain is pretty keen on Jaali spending time up in the rigging keeping an eye out for rocks and reefs. If you want to do that, go ahead. That's how he thinks you will be of most use.

A dhow like this, she's a sea camel. She's suposed to go in deeper water, for long voyages. The problem we've got is staying to close to shore. There's not just reefs, but sea mounts. We'll need to get miles away before we can be sure there's no danger to the hull. You see a dark shape in the blue, you let me know. I'd appreciate it!

As for berths - that will mean Jaali and Maju asleep below and the paladin and monk in the larger cabin on the main deck. Seems like a good arrangement.

I'll press on tommorow. Add what you want overnight.

Maju retrieves two pistols to replace the ones he lost when killed. He will keep a flask with an additional 6 charges of powder, realizing that he's not much good for reloading anyway since he's still learning how to operate with only one good arm.

Maju will also try his hand at fishing, since the party and crew will need to replenish their food supplies, and he's likely not much use as a crewman. He will also discuss navigation with the captain. Since Maju is a learned man, perhaps he can help in that regard.
