After the euphoria wore off, many of the plot lines seemed familiar and had me thinking what was truly original about the story. Still, a great movie.
I felt the same way. The story was interesting and the plot twists and hints have you guessing and wondering about the future movies but...at the end of it, it is basically just a rehash of A New Hope.
The problem with doing something really stupid to impress people is that they may just be impressed by how stupid you really are.

Perhaps the best thing about TFA is that it left you wanting to know more about where all the characters are going.

Perhaps the worst thing about TFA is the worry that the next two movies will just go almost exactly where the original trilogy went.

Exactly. The formula is solid and will be difficult to stray from, but my expectation is that JJ Abrams will turn things on their head... I hope.

I loved TFA, it *felt* like Star Wars, and I'm excited to see what happens next. I think there's a knife's edge between really good and freakin' epic... Us fans really want the latter. Break the rules JJ, that's what you're good at!

I actually like the fact it was a rehash of A New Hope.

Fascist bad guys featuring a guy in a black mask. Scattered good guys, young ones mentored by old ones, a resurgence in the force. That's a Star Wars movie.

It's what they should have just kept on making after eps 4-6. You don't need a huge political intrigue backstory for Star Wars. You just need good action and good characters.

TFA is a mile wide and an inch deep, and that's just fine. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I too liked it a lot. In fact, the only disappointment for me is the wait until the next movie.

At first, I had severe reservations based on the fact that I was one of those kids introduced to Star Wars in the 1990's through old videos of the Episodes IV-VI and then picked up science fiction (mostly because of Frank Herbert's "Dune" at first) especially Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command). When I heard Disney dropped those from official cannon, I was kinda crushed (sure, I don't mind seeing any of Kevin J. Anderson's books dropped, nor the New Jedi Order though).

After I saw SW Ep. VII though, I'm pleased with the manner J.J. Abrams tweaked the series. I enjoyed his take on Star Trek, and I enjoy TFA. Do I like it all? Nope. Not entirely. But I like it for the most part and enjoyed seeing it in theater with my sons, and especially enjoyed my kids reactions to the film cheering the success of the Resistance against the First Order.

TFA beats Ep. I - III hands down. Doesn't quite cross the same "awesome" threshold as Empire Strikes Back, but certainly edges itself right next to it as my favorite Star Wars film to date.

Here's a recent picture I did of Rey. Charcoal pencil over watercolor. I really liked all the new characters, and of course, the question is "Is she Luke's daughter?" (fanboy squeals inside!)

Fantastic artwork as always :)

I finally got to see it today, and I'm still on a Star Wars high. I haven't watched Star Wars in a long time, and I had pretty low expectations going in. I feel like a kid again, and considering all I've had to battle lately I needed that. It may not top the original 2 movies, but JJ, Lawrence, and Lucasfilm have an absolute beast on their hands.

Thanks for the kind words, chiisu, I was in different waters with this one, trying for more of an illustrative look.

Glad you enjoyed the movie and hope that your battles in 2016 are less. Or that you at least have the Resistance on your side!
