While that may be true and I agree with you that he wasn't the best writer. Middle Earth is by far the most complete fantasy world ever conceived. It never changed Tolkien's early maps of Middle Earth and his final ones were identical. What sets Middle Earth apart from every other fantasy world is that it is one of the few one's that feel 'alive'. Narnia is another one while Narnia isn't as filled out as Middle Earth it still has the feeling that it is realistic, that it has a sense of time.
Unlike....Mossflower (the world of the Redwall books) that world has no sense of time. Sure there are events that are mentioned in conjunction with each other. And you can kinda piece together a bit of the worlds history but there is no dating system. Now don't get me wrong I love those books but the world is poorly constructed.
I realize that this is just my opinion on fantasy worlds and that I could totally be wrong about all of this. Also this turned out to be MUCH longer then I thought it would be

Trans Siberian Orchestra. The best stuff to listen to at this time of year!!
The problem with doing something really stupid to impress people is that they may just be impressed by how stupid you really are.
