Need advice... Newish to DMing...

AND....all my PC are newbies.. 8, 10, 11, 13, and my wife...

Morgansfort is a good adventure for that. You can find it on the download page: http://www.basicfantasy.org/downloads.html

It's easy to follow.

Also, if you run into any problems, just post your questions. The folks here will answer them. We're a friendly bunch.

Looks like you have a good group. :D
Kids learn quickly, and usually become quite good at role playing.

My job is to archive all of Hyway's awesome parodies. ;)

OK.. I have that downloaded, looks great for later... but having never ran an adventure before.. or really played in over 20 years... I was hoping for a more programmed instruction... a total newbie adventure...

First say this ...
Make the roll this....
reward them for doing this....
make sure they ....
etc....

Ideas?

Take a simple one shot module out of Adventure Anthology One and just wing it as best you can. Remember its about fun not about sticking exactly to the rule. If you aren't sure about something and a quick peek at the rules doesn't help then just make a ruling and play on. Figure it out after the game. http://basicfantasy.org/download.cgi/AA ... ne-r11.pdf

also, give everyone (that can read) a copy of the Beginner essentials. These are the part of the rules that the player needs and nothing else. It helps. http://basicfantasy.org/download.cgi/BF ... als-r6.pdf

also keep a set of tables handing for quick search of what to roll. http://basicfantasy.org/download.cgi/BF ... lli-r2.pdf

Or use a DM screen such as http://basicfantasy.org/download.cgi/BF ... ham-v1.pdf or this screen http://d20progeny.com/bfrpg/BFRPGScreen ... _36x11.pdf from this thread viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1153&p=26742&hilit=gm+screen#p26742

Thanks, I'll look through the AA... any input on which would be the easiest?

I've decided on Beneath Brymassen... Anyone played that or DM that?

I think you are worrying about it too much. Back in the 80s 12 yo kids opened the box, read the rules and an hour later were playing. Just imagine it happening and rule on it if you can't find a rule.

There is this for creating characters. It may help speed things along http://www.dustinian.com/_downloads/bfr ... ation.html

This is just my opinion, but when starting a bunch of newbies, its easier to get them into the flow of it if you start with an encounter right away than just say, "You're in a tavern, what do you do". So you might just have them heading for the town and just when they get in sight of the walls they encounter a couple giant centipedes (but change it from poison to paralysis to keep from killing them off to quick). That will give you a quick and easy encounter that they should breeze through while getting used to the idea of killing things.

Yup, I agree. Start with a tavernkeeper who needs giant rats cleared out of the cellar and go from there. Between character generation, buying equipment, and the giant rats, that will be most of your first night.
