Hey, I would like to take the captain position. Here's my character (just so you know, I'm new to TSGS, so feel free to correct me if I messed up):

Name: Julius Castle

Position: Lieutenant Commander

Abilities: Wise, Agile, Tough

Age: 36

Homeland: Australia

Family: Mother (61 years old), Father (62 years old), One Sister (34 years old)

Weight: 152 lb

Height: 6' 2"

Hair: Black

Eyes: Blue

Distinguishing Features: Mustache

Hobbies: Violin Playing, Chess

Interests: Nature, Classical Music, Futbol (or soccer, depending on where you live)

Personality: Pratical, Cold, Odd sense of humor, Only happy when he's doing his work

Equipment: Vulcan Blaster, Radio, Lamp, Knife.

Personal Items: fold-up chess board and chess pieces in tin, uniform (3 sets), casual dress (4 sets) several mystery books by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie, "The Three Musketeers" (book), The Man in the Iron Mask (book), An adaption of the Odyssey by Homer (book).

Julius worked as a civilian scientist aboard a variety of Space Force missions, with his focus in biology. On a mission to collect samples on a rather remote planet, the ship that he was on was attacked by a group of space raiders. Many of the crew were killed, and as the highest commanding officer left alive, Julius took command. He managed to escape the combat, and he saved many lives. Upon return to the star base, he transferred his focus to command track, and after several years of training, he has been given this command as a test to see if he would be good as a command officer. The captain position is likely just temporary.

Julius is 36 years old, weighs 152 pounds, stand 6' 2" tall, has black hair, blue eyes, and a mustache. He speaks with a slight accent (think Australian).

His hobbies include playing the violin (which he is decent at), and playing chess. He considers himself a chess master, but he is really only mediocre.

He is generally a practical man, but he has a sense of humor (albeit a strange one).

His greatest fascination is with the natural world, which is why he was a biologist. He enjoys studying and keeping records about all manner of life that he finds in his travels.

GM Edits:

Julius Castle flew as a civilian mission specialist four times: Once aboard SAS Prometheus, but not the same mission Steele was assigned to; twice aboard SAS Icarus, the second time being the mission of the "Tauran Incident;" and once more aboard SAS Skylark. After joining the Space Force and completing his training, Castle flew a trial mission aboard SAS Dauntless as first officer.
Magic Items... Sold Dirt Cheap!

My job is to archive all of Hyway's awesome parodies. ;)

I'll enlist.

"Doc" Amanda Grimm (now an ER surgeon, former occupation was combat medic)
Nationality: American -- Caucasian/Chinese -- though has seldom been in the USA
Appeareance: Long black hair, probably not regulation length; brown eyes; and a charming smile. Average height, athletic build.
Attire: Medical Service Corp. uniform (full Lieutenant)
Languages: English, Chinese, French
Age: 29

Traits: Clever, Wise, Charming
Skills: Medical x2, Persuasion, Perception, Firearms
Equipment: Vulcan pistol, Walkie-talkie, Medical Kit, Lamp, Knife, Rations

Amanda Grimm is the only daughter of an American Army colonel and a Chinese-American Army chaplain. Her life as a child followed her father's assignments. She is the proverbial Army brat, moving from base to base, mostly western Europe. The frequent relocation taught her how to fit into any crowd -- rougher enlisted personnel, upper brass, and even a few dignitaries. Her dreams to follow her father as commander of the Grimm Guardians were crushed at an early age when she learned females were not allowed flight positions in the US Army.

As soon as Amanda finished high school, she enrolled in a smaller military academy for women. She graduated near the top of her class and enlisted in the US Army as a Air Rescue paramedic. Suppressing the Cuban revolution was the worst action she saw, and although she is a good shot with a revolver, has never needed to use it in combat.

When the Cuban action ended with a draw, Amanda went back to school and finished a M.D. in psychiatry. Her thesis in "Neurological impact of long-term low-G environments on cognative ability" won little academic recognition, but did confirm her as a full medical doctor. Before joining the crew of the Pegasus, she was attached to the 86th Air Rescue wing in Ramstein, Germany.

GM Edits:

Prior to Episode 1, Amanda's space experience was limited to training aboard Kennedy Station.

Lando Scott, Engineer,
Clever, wise, dexterous
Engineering+, Info Tech+, Perception

Former Occupation was Merchant -
Piloting+, Astrogation, Engineering, Persuasion

Security Kit, Hot Torch, Lamp, radio, Vulcan (energy) pistol, Knife

Lando Scott was 10 years old when the signal from Mars was first detected. Born the 7th son of a 7th son he had always been told that he was fated to be lucky, but as far as he could tell fate wasn't aware of that. His father, a retired WWI army vet who had spent his last years in the service in the orient, ran a trading post outside the Cavite Naval Shipyard in the Philippines. They had been following behind the navy advance operating their trading post off of their tro "fishing trawlers", but once they reached Manila Bay they set of shop in an overly large shack on the bay. Rumor had it that most of the goods he traded were items misplaced from the Navy base. From a very early age Lando served as lookout during these midnight raids on the base warehouses or in some dark alley where his father would meet a truck with military markings on the side. During the day, Lando spent half his time stocking shelves and helping customers and the other half helping his older brothers maintain the trading post's generator, vehicles and their "fishing trawlers" (which were used more for smuggling than fishing). He had a natural gift for machines and mechanical systems, so he was in great demand by his brothers.

Nothing in his life changed when the Mars signal story hit the newspapers. He still spent his time over the next few years working in the trading post, fixing the shops equipment as well as making extra money fixing other people equipment. But it was at night when he could tell something had changed. His father had given him a new job during their midnight heists, he was now the man to take out the security systems and to get the new mechanical doors open. This life was all he knew and all he had been taught, but he knew deep down that this was wrong. There was a higher purpose to humanity than to just do unto others before they do unto you. There had been, and may still be, other civilizations out there beyond the solar system. Humanity needed to come together as one soul to face whatever we find. He had many arguments with his father about the crime, but a backhand and a threat of more usually stopped them.

When he turned 15, he read a story in the newspaper that the new US Space Service was offering scholarships to up and coming high school students who had an interest in serving in space. He asked his dad if he could apply and was refused. When his dad found him filling out the form anyway, they finally had the falling out that was brewing for the last few years. Although Lando got the worst of it, he did manage to break his father's arm when a judo throw Lando had been trying to learn from a book went bad. Enraged, his father threw him out of the house and out of the family. Lando didn't see it, but that was the first time Lady Luck's eye fell on him. With nothing else to do, Lando started walking away from his home with all he owned on his back. In less than a mile it started to rain. In another mile, it was raining so hard, that Lando never saw the expensive automobile broke down on the side of the road until he was a mere 20' from it. The owner was soaked with rain and covered in mud and grease, but still couldn't fix the car. Within 10 minutes Lando had the vehicle running. The rich man was pleased and impressed and offered him a ride.

Turned out the rich man had just been visiting some powerful friends in the Space Service, both military and political, who were attending a major space conference at the base. The man had just won the right to build his own space ships to serve as civilian support to the Space Service - transportation of goods, operation of services such as restaurants, recreation facilities, maintenance facilities, etc. The man arranged for Lando to take a position as a equipment handler with his new company. The man soon forgot about the lad, but Lando was gifted. He worked his way up the ladder from handler, to equipment manager, to loading chief and worked with the purchasing chief as well. He later transitioned into the engine room as a wiper (he really wanted to be an engineer and took a step down to make it happen) and then up to assistant engineer and even engineer on some of the smaller civilian ships he crewed.

By the time he was 28 he had experience standing watch in every section of a civilian ship and even piloted the ships on occasion. But the real glory was with the US Space Service ships. Then word came back that a US ship was damaged in combat with an alien starship and the hiring spree was on. The US Space Service drafted him into the service and after a brief stint at Officer Candidate School he was named Lieutenant and shoved into the first ship going galaxy quest after his graduation. Once again his natural talent had shown through and 6 years later he was now the Engineer on a Nova-class scoutship, patrolling space to protect the people of Earth.

GM Edits:

Lando Scott is a veteran of three previous extrasolar missions aboard the SAS Hercules. He has spent the last month and a half at Tranquility undergoing training on the specific systems of the Nova-class ships, including a cruise aboard SAS Phoenix to Mars and back. Phoenix was damaged by meteors on a recent mission and returned to Tranquility for refitting, allowing an excellent training opportunity for Scott and several other engineers both in repairing and operating it.

Finn

Abilities
  • Very Wise
  • Clever
  • I know I'm front-loading "mental" abilities, but I think it's going to be interesting. It will challenge me to keep the character from being one-dimensional through RP, and it will put me firmly into a "support" role during any "combat" that may occur.
Previous Experience
  • Weapons R&D
  • I'll flesh this out more, but I'm thinking Finn used to be one of the technicians combing Mars and adapting its technology for earth use. I don't think he focused on the Martian weapons; rather I think he focused on weaponizing their other technology (i.e. this frictionless transport system is amazing... if I add a plasma drive... I've got a rail gun!). This required some cleverness... but more wisdom. Finn had to learn to think like Martians, to move through a Martian facility like a Martian... and then de-construct those core "Martian" assumptions and apply a little "human" aggression/ingenuity, harvesting non-weapon technology that could be easily weaponized. The more Finn did this work, the more he exercised his wisdom, and the more he identified with Martians, and the worse he felt about commandeering and weaponizing their culture (even their music!). This eventually came to head, and he volunteered to accompany a Space Force crew as a civilian scientist.

Finn's education/training is physics (best bonus). He's able to apply his physics knowledge to atoms/molecules for a good understanding of chemistry (moderate bonus), and apply his chemistry for a better-than-average knowledge of microbiology (small bonus). Basically: Knowledge - Physics+, Knowledge - Chemistry, Knowledge - Microbiology.

As a long-term member of the Vulcan's Forge team, Finn can read the Martian language (using the known-to-be-false pronunciation system developed by the linguistics team). Like many Lebanese citizens, he is fluent in Arabic, French, and English.
Background
  • Full Name: Ibrahim ul-Finn (Finn)
  • Nationality: Lebanese
  • Religion: Non-practising Muslim
  • Appearance: 5'10"; 56.8kg (125lb); Olive skin; Closely-trimmed, pencil-thin VanDyke beard.
  • Attire: Plain grey coveralls (like a mechanic's coveralls) with various pencils, pens, measuring devices, and notepads in specific, well-thought out pockets.
  • Equipment: All neatly packed away in various pockets on his coveralls...
Quick Reference
  • This is for my own reference.
    • Abilities: Starting dice pools.
      • Wisdom: Pool(3d6)
      • Cleverness: Pool(2d6)
      • All Other: 1d6
    • Skills: Add these to the pool.
      • Knowledge - Physics: +2d6
      • Knowledge - Chemistry: +1d6
      • Knowledge - Microbiology: +1d6
    • Initiative: 1d6
    • Movement: 30ft
Change Log
  • As my understanding of the mechanics of TSGS improves--and/or as Solomoriah corrects any aspects of Finn that don't fit his setting--I'll update Finn's character sheet and note the change(s) here.
  • 2014.04.28|2114: Changed the Vulcan Pistol to a revolver. Added hyperlinks for later reference.
  • 2014.06.04|1136: Solomoriah: Added his known languages.

GM Edits:

Prior to Episode 1, Finn has spent significant time on Mars, which has included wormhole jumps, so he's not a total novice. Pegasus' shakedown cruise was his first extrasolar mission.

LtCmdr James Steele

Age: 32
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 206 lbs
Appearance: Short blond hair, blue eyes, clean-shaven, very muscular build
Previous Occupation: Soldier (Air Force)

Traits: Dexterous, Fast, Strong
Skills: Piloting+, Starship Combat, Survival, Melee
Equipment: Vulcan Pistol, Lamp, Rations, Radio, Knife, Respirator

James Steele was just your average, All-American, high school football star. Ok, maybe not average, but he was all the rest of those. He was a very focused, driven young man and pushed himself even harder than his father pushed him. Even though he fit the 'jock' image he was smart enough to know that sports weren't the be-all and end-all of life. That, coupled with a strong sense of patriotism, made the decision to enlist in the Air Force easy. He was a quick study and his tenacious nature allowed him to excel at most anything that he applied himself to. He was on the fast track to becoming an Air Force Ace when he was short-listed as a possible candidate for a new space patrol crew. His curiosity got the better of him and viewing this as a new challenge, and a chance to protect his country, he jumped at the chance to join.

GM Edits:

James Steele has flown four previous missions: First, as a junior helmsman aboard the experimental ship SAS Prometheus, on that fabled ship's final mission before its retirement. Following that, he served as second officer and helmsman aboard SAS Endeavor (a Scorpius class ship) for two missions, then flew as a substitute first officer aboard SAS Vanator (a Nova class ship). This last mission was training for a permanent posting aboard Pegasus.

Promoted to LtCmdr after Episode 2

Here are the basic stats of my character. This is my first time making a TSGS character so if something looks wrong, please let me know. I apologize for taking some time with it I've been a little brain dead when it comes to background info for some reason.
