Re: The Discussion Thread
Sounds cool.
Is it OK if your ranger is one of the Red Oak ones that have explored some areas before? That would make sense. But it's up to you.

Re: The Discussion Thread
Yep, that's fine. I was actually thinking the same thing.

Re: OOC / Discussion Thread
Woe -
Sorry to halt your role-playing but there would be no wood elves in here.
The elves are from the west, wood elves included. This eastern forest is goblin territory.
I can post some campaign maps/ furniture soon, to flesh that out a bit.
By the way, I'm getting the notion that the two elves are on an expedition of some kind and they are the ones leading this. The ranger is an obvious choice as a local, and the dwarf is a mercenary who lost a bet...is that what you were thinking?
Also - how spread out is your diamond? 10' between each person?

s/wood elves/children
yes, that's what i'm thinking on the backstory. tiana (m/u) is a minor potentate who has been asked to map a route from west to east. an elven trapper (thief) was assigned to help her on her mission. the ranger is there for some rangerish reason, and the dwarf lost a bet or is sadistically interested in traversing forests while singing elvish arias.
diamond is 20' per edge.

Re: OOC / Discussion Thread
No worries.
I am waiting for your instructions a hex at a time. But if you don't update, I'll assume you want to continue on the route you specified along the river. Does that sound OK?

Re: Rules / Maps / Player Aids
Are you up for keeping fractions? The party could do 3 3-hr squares/day or 4 2-hr squares/day, etc. If they're being thorough, that's 2.7 squares/day. If you're dropping fractions though, might as well only do 2- or 4-hour searches.

Re: OOC / Discussion Thread
Work was very busy yesterday -- got home at 10:30pm and crashed. I'm trying for at least one post/day.
Yep, follow the river /or/ find a hill to get a layout of the area. I'll RPG it up in the game thread.

Re: OOC / Discussion Thread
Map updated.
Climbing a big tree was a good idea. You'll get exp for that. Your thief is 60 feet in the air and wondering if she has the lady-balls to go any higher. Is she roped on lower down? If she is, she has run out of rope. If she isn't...be careful.

Re: OOC / Discussion Thread
No, 60' is enough to see the area. You really don't get much more at 120' (speaking from experience!). As for roping to a tree, you can rope up at intermediate parts as well. Tie off, climb. Tie off, climb. It takes more effort but you can climb a tree taller than your rope length that way.
As for the river, rivers usually get wider at the mouths, right? The river also flows toward Red Oak. It's very intriguing and probably worth further investigation... tomorrow. Tonight, it's all about safety.

Re: OOC / Discussion Thread
Good choice.
I am not an experienced climber so you could educate me on this - especially as it is could happen quite a lot.
I don't see how you could go much higher than your rope length on your own, because you'd have to keep going back down to untie your rope, if you wanted to take it further up the tree / cliff / etc.
Unless you had some kind of spike which would allow you to pull the rope up after you. A climbing kit like that could be something to purchase next time you are in town.
My sister is an experienced rock climber so I might ask her next time we talk.
As for the river...all your character can see is a glimpse of a slightly larger body of water, through the trees. The river might widen, or, it could be a lake.
By the way, if you have a lot of outdoor experience you are ahead of me on that, so I might be asking your advice, especially if you want to make this a bit realistic - and it seems like you do. I'm happy to make it realistic, but also happy to stretch credibility a bit, if it seems like it will make it more fun.
