Anyone interested in starting a new BFRPG play-by-post game?
Re: Anyone interested in starting a new BFRPG play-by-post game?
I just want to play a character. I vote for core rules only. There are some great supplements but the core rule only game I DM is by far my favorite. As far as the campaign... I have no preference.

JoeCarr:
I'm more than happy for you to GM this! It was your idea, so go for it.
In terms of campaign, I'd say running whatever YOU prefer is the most important thing.
I have not played Morgansfort or many of the Classic D&D modules, so I don't mind if you draw on them in running your game.
Looking forward to starting this up!
cheers,
BR.

Agreed - core rules only. One of the things I most like about Basic Fantasy is that it's self-contained within the one book.

One thing that I would really like to do is Greyhawk Grognard's 'Castle of the Mad Archmage', free to download here:

And no, I haven't read it. Otherwise classic would be good.

Just FYI, from personal experience... large dungeons work poorly in PbP. Takes forever, people lose interest. Don't let the game get too big.

Amen, big dungeons or big groups can be killers. I have been running 6 players through a 10 room dungeon that they started off mysteriously teleported into as a group of strangers. Yeah its an awful way to start, I call the game fish hooked. Anyway, the game started in July. They are just finishing the fourth room. And this is a group of pretty active posters. If I were to do it again I would make it three or four players.Solomoriah wrote:Just FYI, from personal experience... large dungeons work poorly in PbP. Takes forever, people lose interest. Small groups of dedicated players in short dungeons work best. Especially since recruiting replacements could be difficult.

I had a look at this and, blimey, there's old-school and there's OLD-SCHOOL!!! (for the benefit of the others, it's a simply colossal 13 level dungeon). Whilst it looks like a lot of fun, it's almost certainly too ambitious for a play-by-post campaign. Even if we kept up with the postings, I doubt that we'd complete it in our lifetimes!doomrock wrote:One thing that I would really like to do is Greyhawk Grognard's 'Castle of the Mad Archmage', free to download here:

I did some preparatory work on the campaign over the weekend and have enough material to get us started. Taking Mhogrymm's advice about small groups working best, we'll kick things off as soon as the forum is in place - I'm liaising with Solomoriah on this at the moment.

Okay, it's done. Please try it out. Joe, you should have moderator powers in the new forum, but you aren't a global moderator. The rest of you should have regular posting access. Outsiders should be able to read but not post.
