Re: Chapter 11: Return to Redbluff
The adventurers moved cautiously into the cave. Elwegon wanted to start a campfire, but there was nothing within the cave to burn. Of course, he realized, all the wood available would be waterlogged now.
Timorel noted that the cave, roughly oval in shape, was open at the back; a narrow cleft, three or four feet wide, with a downward-sloping floor. Two narrow rivulets of water ran into the cave, meandered slightly across the stony floor in well-worn grooves, and disappeared into the cleft.
None of the adventurers who could actually see in the pitch-dark cave saw any animal signs within it.

Timorel will describe the cave for those who can't see in the dark, then quietly walk to the cleft, sword ready, and look into it.
I assume the water is coming into the cave from the rain. Is that right?

The narrow passage descends at a gentle slope into darkness beyond the range of your vision.Sir Bedivere wrote:Timorel will describe the cave for those who can't see in the dark, then quietly walk to the cleft, sword ready, and look into it.

Timorel reports this to the rest.

Grumm follows along, glaive at the ready.

Shybolt isn't going any further without a torch. He lights up.

And we're holding for Rykken and Elwegon, at the very least.

Rykken moves to the back of the cave and then enters the cleft and cautiously and slowly crawls forward 20 feet trying to get a sense of what or where this may be going. He will then return to the others and inform them of his discoveries (if any).
The problem with doing something really stupid to impress people is that they may just be impressed by how stupid you really are.

Not sure if we've lost Elwegon or not. So let's push on as if he were here.
With Timorel out of the way, the other adventurers moved into the relative dryness of the cave. As Shybolt worked to light a torch with Elwegon's help, Rykken and Timorel moved to the cleft in the back to investigate further. Grumm took a position near the entrance, looking out into the darkness which was illuminated intermittently by lightning.
Rykken, the very soul of caution, got down and began to crawl into the cleft. It sloped down gently, and shortly he reached the point where the two rivulets became one. The slope became a bit more steep at that point, but still nothing to alarm the intrepid adventurer. When he judged he was about twenty feet in he stopped for a moment; listening to the sounds of the cave, he concluded that the cleft went on a ways further before opening up into some larger space.

Grumm will watch over Ryken while he investigates.
