The adventurers made their way to the throne room without difficulty, where they found things much as they might have expected. As Shybolt made his way eagerly over to the cracked stone in the floor, Timorel heard a sound; turning, he saw three large humanoids with bestial heads approaching...
Only Timorel is unsurprised, and fortunately for him, he has the initiative.

How large are they? Also, any particulars on what kind of heads? Just monstrous, or birds, lizards, etc.? Are they wearing or carrying anything?

Man-sized (but burly); something doglike, your character isn't familiar with them; wearing loincloths, armed with spears.
