Chapter 8: A Puzzle
Re: Chapter 8: A Puzzle
Brother Arven, gets on his stomach and inches as close to the portal rune as he can (is there an edge he can feel?) if there is he will hang at the edge and hold the torch below the portals event horizon (big word, I learned in an esoteric tomb on alternate dimensions and some wacky god called Cthooloo or something like that).
"What a waste of a good sandwich." he says as he tries to put his face below the portal so he can give a play by play to the others as they climb down.

As soon as Brother Arven stuck his head within the circle, he disappeared.

Re: Chapter 8: A Puzzle
I don't think you are falling in. I have been trying to decide if this is a double magical device, ie portal and illusion. The pit is probably real, and can only been seen if you enter the magical area while still connected to something outside the portal ring like by a rope. But if something enters unconnected they actually don't go into the pit but actually get sent somewhere through the portal. I know that I heard the pottery pieces falling into a room, but they are in water here so that has confused me.
I am just waiting to see if Chris says that I see Arven's body up above holding a torch. If I do then all is well and we continue with the plan. If he has actually disappeared from me in the pit and you guys up in the room, then I am climbing up, releasing the rope and stepping in. I'll be darned if I let a Cleric get to the treasure room before us. He might try to give all the loot to the church.

That's mighty white of you!
I was wondering the same thing, if so I will edit that last post to reflect exactly what happened. To late to ask but can you see up from below, meaning while you are down below, does it look like you are in a well, the village well perhaps?

Re: Chapter 8: A Puzzle
Lemme 'splain to you...
You can always see the circle when you are above it.
Once any part of you enters the circle, you are invisible and inaudible to the rest of the party.
Shybolt can only hear Arven when he puts his head "through the floor" (as long as he's above it, Arven sees the illusion). Shybolt can see up through the pit into the room just fine.
Hope this helps.

Re: Chapter 8: A Puzzle
So I can't see his torch even if he sticks it below the circle? Since Doughbert can see into the room as if the illusion isn't there, did he see arven leaning toward the circle then disappear when he entered it? Assuming I can't see the torch below the hole, does that mean doughbert won't see any of him or the torch until all of him lowers himself threw the hole?
Re: Chapter 8: A Puzzle
So then as far as Arven is concerned nothing has happened? He popped his head and torch below the rim, disappeared to those above, but does not fall or have any other effect than to be invisible to those above and I cannot be heard even though I am yapping away with witty remarks?

No. Shybolt is UNDER the illusion, and thus not affected by it.
