"I have a bad feeling about this." grumbles Grumm.

"Shybolt, Arven - the serpent is gone - it's no longer in the room - get over here, we need to stick together." says Grumm, loud enough that Shybolt and Arven can hear them. He'll keep his eyes on the south passage and tell Timorel to keep is eyes on the room.

Shybolt feels a little trickle run down his leg, then hurries over to the others watching everywhere he can see within their span of torchlight. He won't outrun the light from the torch so if arven stops he will stop.

Brother Arven follows closely behind Shybolt.

"We might as well head south," says Grumm.

Grumm will pack in the bow and draw the glaive and take the lead.

Timorel freezes, then chuckles. "For want of a nail ... Or, in this case, a plan for lighting the battle space," he says.

Timorel keeps a careful watch on the room, ready to employ his bow, until the party decides what to do.

"I have a feeling this is going to bite us in the butt," he says. "But, south is fine."

South is good with me, perhaps someone with darkvision should lead the way?

The adventurers proceeded down the hallway to the south. After some distance, the corridor turned left and became a staircase ascending.

Going up?

We probably should - might lead up behind that one wall.

what is some distance? 50' or so, 100', walked so long we are all winded?

If its only about 50" it probably opens right into the back of the "throne" room, if it goes a little further it might be a secret room behind the throne room. If much more than that then there is probably a series of rooms up there.

At any rate, Shybolt will signal to Grumm that he would like to check out the stairs, and then using his torch in his left hand will take a long look at the stairs, the walls and ceilings, looking for anything that might indicate a sliding step, falling wall or something dropping from the ceiling. When he feels comfortable he will move up the steps slowly, prepared to jump backwards at the slightest sign of movement. he will move up looking for a trap and/or a secret door in the north wall until he finds something or runs out of stairs.
