"Ah. Well, by going badly I meant when we reach the 'BY ALL THAT'S SACRED YOU CURSED ELF - CAST THE WRETCHED SPELL!!!!' point. So, maybe sometime shortly after we discover we're all going to die anyway, so might as well give it a whirl. That sort of thing," he replies softly, with a shrug.

Grumm: "I'll take up a position near the south tunnel with my short bow; I'll keep my glaive leaned up against the wall, so I can drop the bow and grab the glaive quickly."
Re: Chapter 8: A Puzzle
"i'll stay in this passage and use my bow. I'll keep my sword ready, as well as my wicked oil flask and a ready torch in case the snake comes within throwing range. That south passage should lead toward the secret door we found in the 'throne room", if it is a secret door and not just a trap to drive a thief batty. If your way out gets blocked by the snake, you may find a way out there."

Okay, I see clear orders for Shybolt and Grumm, but I'm unclear on what Timorel and Brother Arven are doing.

Timorel will also use his bow from the south passage. If we get split up, it's better for us to be in two groups of two rather than someone getting isolated.
Re: Chapter 8: A Puzzle
Well if the south passage is the selected route then it would be best if we were all there.
"Where would you rather I be, with mace out front fighting, or holding the torch ready to heal as needed? Bother Arven asks. "If we all die then the healing will not be needed, but it may be a bit more useful in combat than my non-existent martial skills."

Re: Chapter 8: A Puzzle
So Grumm, Timorel, and Shybolt are shooting bows, and Brother Arven is holding a torch. Since nobody can see more than 30' when torches are in use, are you shooting into the darkness, or are you throwing torches first as was previously discussed?

Re: Chapter 8: A Puzzle
I would suggest thrown burning oil first, then unleash the arrows, that way at least the oil will do some damage first and we will be able to see the serpent as well as messing up it's heat sensing abilities. If all the fire/heat is on it, or at least next to it, it will not be able to sense us.
(but that may be reading a bit to much real life into a 30' venomous snake eh. Regardless, I would still go with the burning oil first.)

Arven seems to have a plan. I vote for it, if we can see by the light of the flaming oil.
