True. Still, nobody said you'd pick up extra torches.

OK, I had thought it was understood between all of us that every time we went back to the Inn we were resupplying before the next trip, which means to restock our standard adventuring supplies. Shybolts standard supply includes 6 torches. But we will work with how ever many we have. I haven't been keeping track of torches since I thought I was resupplying every trip, so give us a number that we have left and we will work with that.

[Good point about the torches ... but then I just realized that Grumm has darkvision to a 60-ft. range. If the others back their torches away, Grumm should be able to see into the chamber.]

Shybolt backs back into the passage, taking his torch with him.

As GM, I rarely make such assumptions. People forget obvious things in the Real World; this provides an excellent simulation of that effect.

As Brother Arven backs up to avoid getting too packed in the passage he makes a mental note "Bring more torches next time."

Timorel will move forward a bit so he will be able to use his Darkvision as well. He'll be ready with his sword.

As the light-bearers moved back, Grumm and Timorel peered into the darkness. After a moment, their eyes adjusted, and they saw a snake curled up on the far side of the room... a snake so large as to make the previous serpent appear little more than an earthworm by comparison.
It appeared to be asleep, coiled up as serpents do, but like all snakes it slept with its eyes open... how could they be sure?

Grumm will retreat back to the others and tell them, in a soft voice, what he has seen.

Backing up a little further, Shybolt whispers, "Definitely sounds like a good time for range weapons. I wonder if sleep would have any affect on this beast. Probably not, but it could have some more babies around like the one we met up with back there and sleep would do them in at least. So how big do you think the room is? Any features that would allow us to get around or over the beast without fighting it?" Shybolt checks himself for more oil flasks hoping he can find one or two in a back pocket.
