Re: Chapter 8: A Puzzle
OOC; The "Gong Farmer" was the guy whose duty it was to empty out the chamber pots, and to clean out the midden. It was a foul and disgusting job considering the amount of worms and parasites in the people of the time.
(I am not just a pretty face, I know meaningless information of the medieval ages as well as the best way to attack a two story burning family home.) Kinda a Renaissance man. Dats how we do it on da islands mon, don't worry be happy mon.

Player: I drink the potion!
DM: Are you sure you want to do that?
Player: Um, no. Maybe, Why, do you think it would be stupid?

Holding for Grumm to weigh in on the marching order.

Re: Chapter 8: A Puzzle
Grumm is happy to be behind Shybolt - his height and pole arm actually make it a smarter tactic, I think.
Re: Chapter 8: A Puzzle
Then Shybolt leads off, torch out in front, sword ready, and inspecting the walls, floor and ceiling for odd smudges, out of place wetness, incongruous joinings, barbarian hordes, naked women and any other dangerous creatures or features.

Re: Chapter 8: A Puzzle
Shybolt advanced into the darkness, and the rest followed. Shortly, they came to a space too large for their meager light to fill...
In case you are unsure... you are all at the entrance to the area to the east (right). The room at the left is the damp one.

Shybolt will listen carefully for any hint of movement, breathing, trickling water, blowing wind, tinkling gold, flying monkeys, dripping gore, slithering slime, sucking muck, etc. he'll also give a good sniff to see if he can notice anything unusual. He'll lift the torch high to see how high the roof is (has the passage been rising, falling, staying flat, twisting etc?) and check the walls for anything obvious, especially a wall sconce or somewhere he could stick a torch.

Re: Chapter 8: A Puzzle
Shybolt was no dwarf, but he was pretty sure the passageway didn't have any slope to it; he noticed the ceiling was a comfortable twelve feet or so up, with the larger space having a slightly higher ceiling. The walls were plain stone, cut from the living rock, with wooden support frames every ten feet or so; the supports ended where the passage opened out. There were no torch sconces, nor any other sort of fixtures or decorations. The floor here was slightly damp. The air was still. The only odor was a musty underground smell, and the faint smell of the stagnant water. He listened, and thought he might hear the sound of breathing in the darkness, but he wasn't sure. A chill went down his spine.

"Oh my bearded aunt, I think somethings alive in there. I can hear it breathing. Shall we blunder in and find out or would someone like to offer a different plan?"
