Chapter 7: Luck, or Hard Work?
Re: Chapter 7: Luck, or Hard Work?
Brother Arven pulls the rope raising the bar, and then pulls the rope opening the door.
Player: I drink the potion!
DM: Are you sure you want to do that?
Player: Um, no. Maybe, Why, do you think it would be stupid?

(OOC: to be fair, I think grumm intended to pour the oil under the door and let it flood into the room and then light that oil without opening the door. But it looks like too many plans means no real plan. For the record I am way back from the door a good 50' where I assume Arvin and Timorel are. I am not quite sure where grumm is.)

I'll hold for a reply from Grumm and Timorel before proceeding.

Timorel is just waiting to see what we're facing.

Yes, Grumm is standing next to the others, glaive in hand.

Re: Chapter 7: Luck, or Hard Work?
Brother Arven hauled on the ropes, pulling the bar free and then yanking the door open.
For a moment, nothing happened... and then the undead horror came rushing toward the adventurers. Grumm held his glaive ready to receive the charging opponent...
But it didn't make it that far. The chain shackled to its left leg drew it up short just on the outside of the door, and it slipped and fell face-down in the oil.
Shybolt quickly lit his arrow and shot it into the oil, setting it ablaze. The monster's screams were horrifying, and even though the adventurers could smell its dry, decrepit flesh burning, it continued to claw at the floor, trying to reach them.
Then the chain broke.
Amazingly, you all have initiative for the next round.

Shybolt will light another arrow if you allow me to have another one ready, or if not he will light another torch from teh existing torch, and then hold until the creature crawls/moves into the next unlit pool of oil and will then toss the torch into that pool.

Sorry, did I miss something? I envisioned this as one big pool of oil... how did you intend to prevent the pools from running together?

Re: Chapter 7: Luck, or Hard Work?
(you are right, so I guess the first 30' of passage in front of the door is a flaming puddle)
So instead of throwing the flaming torch into the pool I will throw it at the beast as hard as I can when it gets into medium range. Maybe the flaming stick will do a couple points of damage. never mind this action. see my next post.
(OOC: I don't know the movement rate of this thing, but its got to get up off the ground and slip and slide through the oil if it chooses to come at us. Given that we are 50' from the door I am hoping it can't reach us this round. if that happens, we could just kick over the bucket of oil we have here with us, drop the orch in it as we run back as far as we can go this round. If someone agrees we should run before Solomoriah reads my post I will change my action.)

Re: Chapter 7: Luck, or Hard Work?
I am for giving it another burning obstacle before it reaches me, so yes I vote for dumping more oil.
Brother Arven moves backward (throwing the ropes to the side so they don't tangle anyone's feet up. He grabs his mace from his belt and picks up his shield, then moves backward along the passage, watching for any creepy crawlies that are trying to sneak up on us in the excitement. I will assume there is plenty of light from the burning oil to light the hall enough for him to see.
