Re: Chapter 3: Trying Again
Alas, no. All I have ready is the same Sleep spell I used on the trogs.
Re: Chapter 3: Trying Again
Shybolt steps carefully away from the door and backs back to his pals. "There's some kind of slime on the door. It looks harmless, but I doubt that it is. We should throw something at it to see what happens? Perhaps a torch, to see if its explosive like that last door."

Re: Chapter 3: Trying Again
A trog corpse might be useful. Or an arrow. Did you check to see if there was any pressure on the door from the other side?
Re: Chapter 3: Trying Again
Arven says "In the book "Thirty-Seven Useful Parts of the Catoblepas" I read that the blind monks of the Hittren would coat trees with a certain scent that would repel the creatures, thereby keeping them effectively fenced into an area without a fence. Perhaps this is some sort of scenting that keeps the Troglodytes away from this passage. Although I am skeptical that they would be able to smell anything over themselves. Then he adds, Of course then that would mean that there is something else beyond the door that is intelligent."

Re: Chapter 3: Trying Again
Shybolt wouldn't know if there is pressure on the door without trying to open it... and he hasn't touched it yet.
Guys, I've just gotten power back after two days without it. Two days, and two nights... and I sleep with a CPAP. So I'm sleep deprived right now. Don't expect anything from me until tomorrow at the earliest.

"My dear Sir Bedivere. Do you see any horrendous scars on my face? Have you counted all my appendages and noticed that I am still in possession of all that I was born with? That is because I do not carelessly check to see if there is pressure upon the backside of any random glistening liquid that conforms itself into a shape that can hang perpendicular to the floor without cascading down under its own weight."
Shybolt allows time enough for the elf to count all his appendages, then continues. "I am not sure what an arrow would do, it being so small and liquid being liquid. Mayhaps there is actually no door and the arrow will go right through whatever that is. And I don't care to get close enough to it nor do I have the the size to toss those heavy damn trogs at it. But tossing a torch may give us some idea what that thing is without having to get to close."

"I have several torches, I can spare one for the test." Arven is still occasionally looking down the pasageway behind us to ensure we are not going to get ambushed.

Re: Chapter 3: Trying Again
Ah. So, by 'there's some kind of slime on the door; it looks harmless,' you actually meant 'there's a random glistening liquid that conforms itself into a shape that can hang perpendicular to the floor without cascading down under its own weight.' Good to know. Do you perchance carry a spare dictionary so I can look these things up in the future? (Waits a moment for Shybolt to check his pack.) In any case, if it is liquid, a torch is as likely to go through as an arrow, while an arrow could be launched from further away. And, a trog arm isn't actually that heavy, if we want to know if this random glistening liquid is a flesh-eating acid.
(OOC: I hope you get some rest, man. We'll try to keep everyone amused in the meantime.)

Much better now.
Shybolt: I said it was wet, not that it was made of wet. It's a wet wooden door... or at least, that's what it looks like.

"Timorel, the eyes see what the mind wants. Master Shybolt is just being cautious, which, I for one, appreciate. I read once in "Curiosities of the Belc-Jar Coast" that the slime of the Anduran Eel is acidic once removed from the water." He flushes red as the others look at him. "I'm not suggesting that this is eel slime of course, I was just...Oh never mind. Arven turns to concentrate on the rear passage.
