Did the statues give any indication that they understood me when I asked them to repeat their challenge?

Grumm: "Then the question, lads, is are we ready to take them? Personally, I'd rather make a note of it and explore elsewhere. I'm not sure how to kill a statue."

"We should give this a try. We can always run if the first couple swings go badly for us," Shybolt says with a smile. "But I am not sure this is a battle of strength."

"Well, folks? Flight or flight? I'm ready to fight."

Brother Arven says "I do not know much about fighting living statues either, but I do know that we have an obligation to destroy evil. I say we fight the creatures and be done with it." It would not be very hard to quickly see that Arven is positioned to the rear of the partys combat lineup, hence the bravery in his voice that he does not feel inside.

Grumm: "If we're going to fight, let's at least be smart about it. Shybolt - pull back for a moment so we can put ourselves in flanking positions around them."

Shybolt backs up slowly keeping a close eye for any movement by the statues.

This will be 3 against 2. Timorel should stay back by the door to see how the action goes, perhaps using his bow if the opportunity allows it. How do you want to go about this? All of us against 1 or one of us be one on one? And which one of us?

"I personally think Master Grumm can handle one by himself, especially with that great sword." Arven says, then adds with a grin,"And I am humble enough to allow you to stand by my side Master Shybolt, so I can show you what I can do with my mace. But if the opportunity comes for you to perhaps use some of your, how shall I put this, more agile moves, I do not think it is against any rules that I am aware of, that would prevent you from hitting them from behind."

While the group discussed, Timorel had been looking around for any symbol, emblem, heraldry or identifying patterns, both on the immediate guardians, the tower, and the surrounding combatants (orcs, etc.).

"Who are these people?" he wondered aloud.

He had also been trying to see if there were any familiar terrain features, or if the place or battle seemed similar to any historical battle he had heard about.

"And where are we? Or, at least, where does someone want us to think we are?"

If he finds any marks or similarities, he will make a mental note of them.

Once the conversation turns to fighting, he'll turn back toward his companions. "I wonder if this has any connection with the horn we found?"
