Re: Chapter 1: The Descent
While Grumm and Dorne stood watch outside, Timorel and Shybolt peered into the room. They noticed nothing of interest on the walls or ceiling, but in the center of the floor of the room they saw a strange symbol. It was like a giant rune of some sort, encircled by a ring of text which Timorel thought looked like Elvish.
Shybolt noticed his torch flickering, and was surprised to feel a draft against his face. This seemed strange to him, since the room appeared to have no openings other than the door... rather than a cool draft, he was expecting stagnant air.

Re: Chapter 1: The Descent
Shybolt will hang is bow over his pack, retrieve the torch and pull his sword. Once he is ready he will tap the floor before him with the sword to be sure its solid then step into the room. He will pay attention to his flickering torch, determine which way the smoke blows and will make a circuit of the room, keeping away from teh symbol, and return to the door. If he arrives alive he will inform the others its safe to enter. While circuiting teh room he will try to determine where the breeze is coming from.
Re: Chapter 1: The Descent
Sounds good to Grumm.
Re: Chapter 1: The Descent
This works for Dorne as well.

Re: Chapter 1: The Descent
"Hm," Timorel says. "The writing looks like it might be Elvish."
If Shybolt enters the room and makes it the first ten feet or so without incident, Timorel will also step into the room. He will look up and around to see if there is anything else he can see, then, tapping ahead of him with his sword, he will slowly approach the circle and rune until he can see the words clearly. At this point, he just wants to see whether or not its Elvish, so he won't go any further than that.
He will avoid doing anything that he (as a Magic-User) might think would set off any kind of magical effect (e.g., if he knows reading the rune might set off some effect, he will avoid looking at the rune). He of course won't read anything aloud.
He will also avoid touching or crossing any part of the circle or rune, keeping everything he is wearing or carrying as well as himself at least a couple of feet from the edge of the circle/rune. (Of course, if he can read the writing from 5 feet away, he'll stay 5' away.)
Two questions: Is it Elvish? Does he feel the breeze that Shybolt feels?

Re: Chapter 1: The Descent
Shybolt entered the room, followed by Timorel. Timorel felt the breeze as he entered, but once inside the room, neither adventurer could detect it any longer. While Shybolt examined the floor, walls, and ceiling carefully, Timorel regarded the markings on the floor.
The runic marking in the center of the circle was unfamiliar to Timorel, but he could read the Elvish writing around the outside: "Here is the way to great treasure. Step inside and enter the deepest hoard."

Re: Chapter 1: The Descent
Discomforted by the unusual breeze and the writing, Timorel backs out of the room.
"I don't recognize the rune in the center," he reports, "but the words around the outside of it are in Elvish. They say, 'Here is the way to great treasure. Step inside and enter the deepest hoard.' I suppose it could be a gate of some kind, or it could be a trap, of course."

Re: Chapter 1: The Descent
Grumm would just as soon not step into the circle - nor see his new friends do so. Perhaps the other room holds a more tangible reward?

"It might as well say 'slay yourself here'. Ill wait till someone else goes and comes back. Once we kill something we can toss in there and see what happens.
