Chris, I think you said you were using this game to test the supplements we are using (or maybe it was some other test). If thats the case, either I have had the luckiest rolls ever or something is out of whack to make Shybolt such a badass fighter. I don't even feel the need to cower and range which is how I usually play a thief. Not that I want you to change anything, but just thought I'd throw that out there for discussion.

Actually with duel wielding and studded leather my AC is 2 points better than a BTB thief. No other class benefits from that since they can wear better armor or use a shield anyway. (of course its only one point better against range weapons or any additional melee opponent. As a player who prefers thieves, I am not complaining, but thought I would point that out.
