"Time may be of the essence here. It appears others are on the trail." Mandross resumes his position in the march.

The lever looks like ... well, like a lever really. Iron, about half a yard long, currently in the "up" position. It appears to be in good repair, i.e. it doesn't look like it's seized up or anything.
Birthright wrote:My guess is the lever resets the pit trap. Can Nivek determine if that is the case or not?
Just by examining the lever, Nivek's not sure whether it resets the pit trap or not - does he want to try pulling it?
Paladin listens at the closed door [
rolls], but he can't hear any sound on the other side. Meanwhile, Benoni checks for blood on the floor, but can't see any. Nor can he see any other obvious signs of combat. Tannen spots a small puddle of water beside an overturned pitcher, suggesting that the ransacking probably took place fairly recently.

Ooc: I don't mind trying it, so long as there are no objections or other ideas.

doughbert doesn't care one way or the other. he feels sure it just the lever that operates the trap outside the door.

"Lets leave the lever for now," says Tannen "if it isn't for the trap outside the door, it might announce our arrival to those we'd rather sneak up on."
Tannen then moves to take up a position near the next door and will open it once its been checked for traps.

Corpses

Paladin gives the door a thorough search, but can't find any traps. He nods to Tannen, who steps forward and opens it. You're faced with a short corridor (20' or so) heading south, which used to end in another door. However, it looks like the door has been kicked-in as it's now lying flat on the floor in front of you.
Beyond the broken door is another room, much larger than the first (approximately 30' N-S x 50 E-W; you've arrived in the north-east corner). There are torch brackets at 5' intervals along all four walls. Most of the torches have burned out, but those that are still burning cast a flickering light across a scene of utter devastation. The floor is strewn with upturned, broken furniture, and much is stained with dried or drying blood. Sprawled brokenly in the room are half a dozen corpses.
There are two other exits from the room - one heading south from the south-east corner of the room, and another heading west from the middle of the western wall. Both of these passages are unlit.

Tannen cautiously enters the room and examines the 'corpses' for any that may still be alive, but also to check their wounds to see what kind of enemy the party might be up against.
