Re: Season 2 - Episode 4: The Warren
Leo will prowl back just as he came and return the group.
After describing the passage and rooms ahead to the others, he adds "I believe we should move on, but be very careful. I've not seen a door torn from its hinges like that since a wild bear happened upon a hunter's shack in the Coastwood. Either way, we may be getting closer to the source of this mystery. Once we are in the rooms ahead we should carefully and quietly examine the areas for more clues. While my ability to see in the dark is helpful, it lacks some of the acuity required for observing important details that could aid in our hunt."

Paladin beckons Benoni and his lantern forward. He hikes amid the gore until he can see down the 20' to the fig-painted door. He frowns.
Using Benoni as a light source and a ladder, Paladin will inspect the door frame of the battered door to see if it has been ripped cleanly off, strangely sheared, or bludgeoned free. He'll look at the hinges for twisting, the back of the door for dents, and other such marks. What he's mostly interested in is whether something is bad enough to rip a door off hinges is roaming about, or if this is more likely a conventional use of force, like mallets and a good pry bar. He'll solicit Benoni's opinion as well, specifically while standing on Benoni's back to view the upper hinges.
Once that's done, Paladin will check the painted door from a distance. Is the fig leaf graffiti or part of the door? Is the paint obviously wet and shiny or running? Is the door intact? Does the frame show splintering? Is it obviously locked from this side? Paladin is trying to figure out if the fig leaf folks left this to mark their territory, perhaps as they left, or if this is more like a boundary between the now dead gang and the fig leaf gang.
Once that's done, Paladin turns to the others and says, "I think we should take the weapons and armor that is here and use it as collateral to book passage somewhere nicer. What do you say?" Assuming no takers, he shares the benefits of his inspections.

Leo nods with a grin, "See, more like a hunt: Skin your prey and trade his hide."Iain_IF wrote: Once that's done, Paladin turns to the others and says, "I think we should take the weapons and armor that is here and use it as collateral to book passage somewhere nicer. Which side were the hinges on, and can we tell which side it was broken from?
Go with a smile!
Doors

The broken door is lying on the floor inside the room (north of the doorframe), rather than in the passage leading to the painted door (south of doorframe). This suggests that it was broken down from its southerly side. The hinges are on the right hand side as you look from north to south. Following an inspection of the door and its hinges, your best guess is that it was battered down from the southerly side - the door contains numerous indentations that suggest it was repeatedly hit with a blunt object.
Inspecting the fig leaf design closely, you find that it's actually a rather fine piece of paintwork. It's certainly not graffiti. Nor does it look like it was painted recently.Iain_IF wrote:Once that's done, Paladin will check the painted door from a distance. Is the fig leaf graffiti or part of the door? Looks like they got into a disagreement with their neighbors opines Paladin. Having had a bad experience with the door into here, Paladin check the floor of the corridor between the bashed in door and the fig door very carefully for traps. If there's dust he'll let the ranger look for signs that part of the hall was avoided before searching for traps.

At Paladin's suggestion, Leo turns his inspecting gaze upon the area. He searches for any of the more subtle indications of egress or ingress along certain paths, or anything else that may suggest a proper course of action.

After Leo rangers the area, doughbert will assist Paladin looking for collapsing floors, arrow or dart slots in the walls, boiling oil grooves in the ceiling, etc. he too doesn't feel that the brotherly love between the neighbors in this subterranean den of thieves extends to an open door policy.

Gannicus will roam around the room looking for anything out of the ordinary.

Paladin also had Nivek check the floor, walls, and ceiling with his dwarven eye for detail too. Paladin clearly considers having Benoni check the floor by jumping up and down on it. Benoni frowns and shakes his head sternly as Paladin begins to speak. Paladin closes his mouth like he's inhaled a fly.
