OOC: No Problem... it can wait. Nivek will convert 153gp into 30pp locally, and adjusting character sheet for 20gp in tithe/donation/etc. as mentioned.
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

No, the drunk one.
Paladin posts his advertisement in the common room of The Wheatsheaf and on the noticeboard in the market square. Confident that it will yield results, he waits for the applications to start flooding in ...
Actually, considering the size of Marketstone, Paladin's notice generates a considerable amount of interest. He has three potential applicants who come to see him (they are all currently working as guards-people for the same merchant caravan, and are all equally disillusioned with their current employer).

The first applicant is very thin and wiry, yet rather tough-looking. They come across as somewhat sulky and miserable, but ask the most sensible questions of all the candidates. Following the interview, they remain undecided. A 15% share sounds rather stingy to them. If Paladin could up the offer to 20%, they'd reconsider.

The second applicant is as slender as the first, but without the air of resilience. Personality wise, they are streetwise, but very rude. However, they'd happily take the job if offered at the terms Paladin has stated.

What the first two applicants lack in muscle, the third has in abundance. But they also have an easy grace about them. They're personable enough in the interview, but after chatting to Paladin they explain that perhaps the position isn't quite right for them (Paladin thinks he saw them talking to Karl over at the blacksmith's earlier in the day).

(OOC: I have never played with retainers. Where does the %share paladin is offering come from? I assume its coming out of his share but I don't know for sure.

edit: nevermind, I just looked it up. Pay comes from paladin, but experience is at 1/2 share from entire party experience gain.)

Paladin, of course, requires both applicants to prove they can hoist a Halfling with one hand. Paladin grins gleefully and looks for Doughbert. Unfortunately, the priest is nowhere in sight. With a sigh, Paladin puts down his drink and says, " Imagine I'm unconscious. It isn't that hard to do!" than he waits to see if either of them can carry him one handed.

Doughbert walks into the tavern looking for his comrades sees Paladin and his antics and wonders why he was looking. Then with a shake of his head he mumbles, "these antics are much to much like dwarf tossing." When the barkeep glances at him, he asks for an ale.

It had been a long week out in the wilds and Leolannan Fletcher walked slowly but surely down the street of Marketstone. He stopped in at at the general goods store and traded out a pair of wolf pelts and several rabbits for some small bits of rope, twine, and wire which he needed to replace, that were wearing thin, on some traps.

After a few mumbled words of thanks to the shopkeeper for the goods and a few coins to put in his purse, Leo headed back out to walk the paths he knew as a child. A few nods of recognition were shared between he and some townsfolk, but that was all. There were no laughing reunions or shared stories over cup of tea nor mug of ale.

But he did finally find himself pausing in front of the inn where he heard the normal laughter and raucous conversation spilling out of the doorway. He's not sure why, but he finds himself slipping in, sliding a coin across the bartop and delivering a mug of mead to a table where he sat alone and watched the others.

He found some amusement in watching a halfling try and get larger folk to lift him up. He wasn't sure quite why this was the task at hand, but then Leo never did spend much time around townfolk, so perhaps this was normal...

Tannen, observing the antics of his little friend, sighs and downs the rest of his ale. Such a strange creature....

[OOC: If Mandross deducts the 52gp he has lent to Tannen, can Tannen add the Plate Mail to his inventory?]

The first of the two remaining applicants, the more resilient looking one, is deeply suspicious of this request. Is it some sort of trick question? Is the halfling trying to pull a scam? As soon as they lay a hand on him, is he going to shout "guards! guards!" and have them arrested? But eventually, after suitable reassurance, they raise the halfling in the air as requested.

The second applicant, the particularly rude one, tells the pervert halfling exactly what he can do to himself.
