Paladin maintains his position, his bitten shoulder throbbing.

A bead of sweat trickles down Tannen's nose and, after the briefest of pauses, drips towards the floor. Time seems almost to stand still... ;)

Hehe - OK - point taken ... :) ... I'll press on to keep the momentum of the game going. _Silveredged - please just update when you can.

Initiative
Paladin: 5 + 3 = 8
Doughbert: 5 + 2 = 7
Karl: 5
Bandit 3: 5
Nivek: 4
Bandit 2: 4
Hiker: 2 + 1 = 3
Tannen: 3
Bandit 1: 2
Bandit 4: 2

Paladin is the first to react, maintaining his position in the tunnel as quick as you like.

Doughbert unleashes his crossbow at Bandit 1 [modified "to hit" roll: 6]. Clearly the halfling is still getting to grips with his new weapon - the bolt is a long way wide of the mark and crashes into the wall behind the bandit.

Karl moves into the room. It's difficult for him to move to the left-hand (west) side of the room because the open door is in the way and his passage is blocked by Bandit 1. Instead he moves to the right-hand (east) wall and fires his crossbow at Bandit 3 ["to hit": 15 for 1 damage]. Karl adapts to his new weapon a little better than Doughbert, but his bolt only grazes the bandit's arm.

Incensed, Bandit 3 rushes at Karl with his shortsword. However, Karl is able to neatly sidestep his oncoming assailent.

Next it's Nivek's turn. He enters the room with his hammer readied for throwing. By this time Bandit 3 is engaged in melee with Karl, so he instead directs his fury towards Bandit 1 ["to hit": 9]. His hammer goes much the same way as Doughbert's crossbow bolt.

Bandit 2 moves to engage Nivek. He connects with his shortsword, but the blow is deflected by Nivek's armour.

Time for Seargeant Tannen to show everyone how it's done. He moves into the room and to the left, around the open door, to engage Bandit 1 with his longsword ["to hit": 18 for 5 damage]. That's more like it. The mouthy one's final utterance is "ungghh" as he falls to the floor, fatally wounded.

Hiker's the final party member to enter the room this round. He moves into position and fires across the card table at Bandit 4 with his short bow ["to hit": 16 for 6 damage]. A second bandit falls before he even gets a chance to react.

Paladin wonders what all that noise is about and keeps an eye down the two passages, looking slightly wall-eyed.

Tannen shoves the door closed with his foot [hoping to minimise the noise of battle outside the room], before closing in to confront Bandit 2. Tannen, advancing, looks the man in the eyes and says. "You needn't die today. Tell us where the woman is."

Karl opts to drop the crossbow and switch to longsword (and shield, if manageable). If Bandit 3 doesn't stand down, Karl will go for the kill.

(Somewhat dependent on next initiative roll) Nivek will delay actions briefly tapping his mace against his shield in order to reinforce Tannen's remarks (to bandit #2) with a little intimidation. Nivek remarks flatly, "Ye best think about yer next action bub."
If the bandit attacks, then Nivek will resume attack routine (assuming at a new later initiative spot).
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

Doughbert drops the crossbow and pulls his sword. he too will hold his action to await the outcome of Tannens request. If the bandits resume the attack he will attack the nearest one to him.

Here's the outcome of the initiative rolls for Round 2. As Hiker's first up, and it's potentially important, I'll just hold for a short while for _Silveredged to post. Otherwise, I'll assume Hiker carries on mechanically firing at the bandits ... quick changes of plan have never been his strong point.

Initiative
Hiker: 5 + 1 = 6
Doughbert: 3 + 2 = 5
Tannen: 5
Bandit 2: 5
Paladin: 1 + 3 = 4
Bandit 3: 4
Karl: 1
Nivek: 1

Nothing from _Silveredged, so I'll carry on as suggested ...

Hiker spins round, looking for a fresh target with his bow. He lines up Bandit 2, but it's difficult for him to get a clear shot as the bandit's currently engaged in combat with Nivek. He holds to see whether an opportunity presents itself.

Bandit 2 takes another swipe at Nivek, but misses yet again.

Meanwhile, pushing the door closed, Tannen moves forward and offers Bandit 2 the opportunity to surrender [reaction roll]. The bandit spits at Tannen's feet, grinning menacingly. "Bring it on farm boy, bring it on ...".

As it seems clear that the bandits are unwilling to negotiate, Doughbert resumes hostilities. He advances, shortsword drawn, on Bandit 3 ["to hit": 18, for 6 damage]. It's a vicious thrust, and Doughbert's sword finds itself embedded deeply within the bandit's torso. His victim falls to the ground mortally wounded.

Karl switches his focus to the remaining Bandit 2, flanking to the bandit's left ["to hit": 5], but his swipe is wide of the mark.

Nivek attempts to finish things ["to hit": 4], but the charmed life of Bandit 2 continues.

Initiative for Round 3
Doughbert: 4 + 2 = 6
Hiker: 5 + 1 = 6
Tannen: 6
Nivek: 5
Paladin: 1 + 3 = 4
Bandit 2: 4
Karl: 2
