The Rescue of Alma Grenewell - To the End of Round 1

Remember, this all happens simultaneously ...

Let's first resolve the player characters:

Mandross casts the Sleep spell into the far north-west corner of the corridor ahead of him. Morward and Bandits 4-8 are all enveloped within its effects. [Rolls]. Bandits 4, 5 and 6 fall into a magical slumber. Morward and Bandits 7 & 8 resist the effects.

And then, the bandits:

Bandit 4 fires at ... [rolls] ... Mandross with his crossbow, and hits for 1 damage.

Similarly, Morward fires at Doughbert and also hits, this time for 4 damage (ouch!). Doughbert takes the full force of the bolt and collapses to the ground bleeding badly.

Bandits 1 and 2 attack Glondil and Calebrindur with their short swords. Glondil is caught with a nasty-looking blow to his left thigh, but Calebridur is able to side-step the attack upon him.

Paladin: 5.
Bandit 3: 5.
Bandit 8: 5.
Bandit 2: 4.
Bandit 7: 4.

Mandross is in a bit of shock.
I mean yes, he's been in a few scrapes, with a bit of pitchfork-brandishing farmers, and the occasional bar fight, but nobody's ever actually shot him before...

When shock clears, Mandross will try to make himself an uninteresting target at this point, especially compared to the more prominently armed elf and dwarf. he is going to kneel down by Doughbert. If the bandits are closing with this end (say, within 20'), and he doesn't have to aim through someone (such as Nivek or Rerion - cough), he will throw his dagger. Otherwise, he will pull some scarves from his sleeve and bind Doughbert's wound.

Looking back and seeing his comrade fall gives Nivek some pause, but seeing Mandross move to his side settles him somewhat. "Bind His Wound!", Nivek calls back while he continues to look for an opening to melee.

Paladin does just that, concealing himself in a gloomy corner of one of the prison cells. He waits for a firing opportunity to present itself.

Bandit 3 swipes at Calebrindur with his short sword, but misses.

Jumping over his sleeping colleagues and pushing past Mandross, Bandit 8 hurtles down the corridor to join the fight around the southerly door (cannot attack this round).

Bandit 2 turns slightly to engage Tannen, but his attack is wide of the mark.

Bandit 7 moves forward and attacks Hiker with his short sword, but he misses as well.

OK, continuing Round 2 ...

Nivek attacks Bandit 7 with his trusty mace [modified "to hit" roll: 17 - hit! for 4 damage]. The bandit crumples under the vicious blow.

Bandit 1 swings at the badly wounded Glondil. The elf's dodge is too slow and he receives a fatal wound to the chest.

Calebrindur and Rerion seek to avenge their fallen comrade. However, both fail to injure their bandit adversaries.

The mighty Morward advances into battle, swinging his longsword in overly extravagant arcs as he strides down the tunnel. His final aim targets the unarmoured Morward, but the Magic-User manages to roll acrobatically beneath the oncoming blade.

Understandably unwilling to engage Morward in melee, Mandross proceeds to bind Doughbert's wound, hoping that the bandit leader will move on to a more threatening target next round.

(Paladin ... you may fire this round at Bandit 8 if you wish. However, if you miss, there is a risk that you might hit Hiker or Alma. Will you fire or hold?)

Alma tugs at Hiker's sleeve from behind. "Hiker ... let me help ... quick ... give me your dagger."

The banging and crashing to the north continues. It seems that, for now, Tannen's barricade is holding.
