He has his sword at the ready in case the occupant of the room is right near the door.
Tannen moves forward to the door, pauses and listens for a few moments. From what it he can tell, it sounds like there's a game of cards going on inside. Perhaps bandits killing time before their next raid or shift of guard duty? It's difficult for Tannen to tell how big the card school might be, but he would guestimate that there are at least four players.

If Tannen wishes to actually peer inside the room, he'll have to open the door a bit more.

As rear guard I feel i am where I need to be, but I would suspect Tannen would like some backup.

OOC: Looks good to me. FYI, Nivek does not utilize crossbow (cleric duh  , but I didn't even think about it earlier during those discussions).

Nivek stands ready with throwing hammer.
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

Aye, Tannen does look a bit lonely. I'd move up more - I'll take another square north if that's okay.

Done ... https://sites.google.com/site/marketstonecampaign/.

Just waiting for the party to resolve its kill-or-capture dilemma.

Again, I like the optimism.

Tannen signals the rest of the party to quietly move up behind him by first holding his index finger up to his lips and then gesturing for them to approach.

Assuming the party form up...
Next he holds up his hand to indicate that there are about 5 occupants. Tannen then switches his sword to his left (off) hand and silently takes his hand axe into his right hand for throwing. His shield is still on his back. Tannen readies himself to quickly enter the room with the party at his back.

Tannen's plan is to slip into the room, sliding to the side of the door to allow the rest of the group to enter behind him. He'll hold his hand axe ready to throw at anyone moving to defend themselves. On the off-chance he achieves total surprise, he'll offer surrender to the occupants, but if they notice him immediately or move to defend themselves, he'll do his best to get in the first strike.

Paladin doesn't notice Tannen's signal to move up and stands at the intersection looking back toward the entrance.

Doughbert taps Paladins shoulder and whispers that he is moving up to back Tannen. He will then whisper to tannen, "let me go walk in first, they may think I am one of them. That may grant us some surprise when you guys burst in behind me. Doughbert will then ready the crossbow but keep it held non threatening but ready to fire. When everyone else is ready and if Tannen agrees he will push the door open and walk in with his head tilted slightly down as if weary hoping to hide his features. Once he is clear of the door the others can rush in and we open fire. (or run if the odds are too over whelming.)

Before we fire i will want to know the description of the room of course. This information is just for preplanning.

With the change of plan, Karl looks back over to Hiker and gives him a "come here" head nod, then moves up to stand behind Tannen. He will follow him in immediately, moving deep enough to let the others in behind. [If there's room enough, perhaps entering with Nivek?]. Karl will stay out of melee /point blank range of any occupants. The crossbow is at the ready to look menacing, or to shoot someone (preferably not a party member) if things go hostile.

"Oi! who's that whispering out there?", comes a shout from inside the room.
