With his freedom at hand, the talkative fellow makes a short bow (with flourish) before stepping out.

"Thank you kind sir. Mandross Sedge, at your service."
After taking a few seconds to look over the rescuers, he continues. "You are a colorful looking group. Healing? Ah, no, my talents run in other directions. But I will help as I can. Has anyone seen my hat?"

(Is any of his stuff in here?)

Tannen gets whoever has the keys to throw them to him so he can release the elves.
"We could use your help to get out of here and get the lady back to town. There are weapons nearby, if you know how to use them...". Tannen urges the large group quietly out of the room and back to the dwarf's room where the elves can arm themselves

[Tannen's preference is to get out of here straight away. We are too beaten up to risk looking around for treasure. However, we could (briefly) check out the quiet room in case that is the pony-tailed bandit leader's room]

The elves nod their appreciation as Tannen frees them from their cage. "Alas we have no skills in the tending of the wounded. Amongst our people we are scouts. But we will gladly help you escape from these accursed caves if you can arm us. Our bows, blades and armour were taken from us when we were captured. If we could locate them it might make things easier should we run into any more trouble."

After finding nothing else of interest in the room, doughbert returns to the hall way and silently moves to the quiet room and listens at the door. If he hears nothing he will inspect the door and latch for traps and to see if it appears to be locked. If he finds nothing, he will wait to make sure someone else knows he is at the door then he will attempt to open the door for a peek inside.

As Doughbert sneaks off, Mandross addresses Tannen - he seems to be the one in charge. "I agree with my erstwhile companions. They're quite effective with their bows, and I have a few items that could come in handy. Perhaps we can look quickly and give our Ms. Alma a chance to calm down..."
Glancing at the door, he adds "Although it seems one of your party is already on the case..."

Paladin appears out of the proverbial nowhere and reenters the prison, his keen ears having heard all sorts of conversation and noise. He wanders over to the limp, slumped Karl and starts pulling weapons off the downed fighter. "Mandross and the elves, come here," he beckons. Paladin quickly lays out one of his short swords, Karl's hand axe, mace, long sword, light crossbow and quarrels, and shield on the ground beyond the protesting human's easy reach. "Arm yourselves as best you can and according to your means," Paladin says, "but quickly, more foes await. If you have important information about the number of men here, troves of treasure, or hidden rooms, speak now, else bide a while until we have secured the area." Paladin pauses long enough to make sure they equip themselves reasonably.

[Rolls]. Hearing no noise at the easterly door, and not detecting any traps, Doughbert tries the latch and finds the door unlocked. Opening it just enough to peer around, he discovers a cave that is about 20' (E-W) by 40' (N-S). It's lit by a lantern on a swinging hook attached to the cave ceiling.

Quickly scanning the cave, Doughbert can see a table in the centre of the room with 4 chairs around it and some papers scattered upon it. A chest is pushed against the eastern wall, and there is a further door in the south wall. But there don't appear to be any inhabitants.

The elves examine the array of weapons somewhat disdainfully, but they quickly accept the reality of the situation and realise that beggars can't be choosers. Calebrindur takes the short sword and the shield, whilst Glondil takes the long sword and Rerion, most reluctantly of all, the mace.

Paladin takes the remainders back to Karl and re attaches them to his weakened frame. He then goes back into the intersection and sets himself up to shoot through the door into the room with the voices. "Last but not least, he says.

Doughbert leaves the door slightly ajar and returns to the others to report what he saw. Seeing that the others were arming the elves he'll hold out the crossbow to any takers.

"I think we should check out that chest."

Mandross looks over Karl's weapons with nearly as much disdain as the elves, but nowhere near the resignation.
"I'll leave the large, dangerous weapons to those who know what they are doing. Let me see if I can find something more my speed. I've also got a couple of tricks to try as well."

Mandross takes a quick look around. (OOC: Any chairlegs or prybars of satisfactory weight? Alternatively, are there any sacks or modest bits of blanket in the 1pound or less range?)

Upon Doughbert's return:
"I don't suppose you saw my hat? Wide brimmed affair, nice green band? No? Let's look in on the chest, then."
