Season 1 - Episode 6: The Bandit Caves

With Karl "guarding" the corridor, the others bundle through the westerly door, missile weapons at the ready.

You're confronted with a decent-sized cavern, a little larger than the stable area you came across earlier. Like the stables, this cave has also been specially segregated to house its residents. But rather than wooden animal stalls, here iron bars have been used to provide five locked prison cells.

Two of the five cells are empty, but three are occupied.

One contains three rather surly-looking elves.

Another contains a flamboyantly-attired gentleman. Most atypical of your average prisoner, he's dressed in a bright green-doublet, with loose trousers tucked into high boots. His long rust-brown hair is neatly-tied back and he sports a rakish goatee. He seems rather nonchalant about his captivity, flashing a twinkling (and rather dangerous looking) smile as you enter.

A third contains a despondent looking woman. She's pale, thin, haggard even, and is wearing a torn yellow dress. Hiker immediately recognises Miss Alma ...

Hiker: HP 9/9.
Karl: HP -2/8 (stabilised).
Nivek: HP 6/7. 1 '0' level spell remaining today.
Paladin: HP 3/4.
Tannen: HP 5/9.

The gentleman in the middle cages looks up with a bit of surprise, and a smile as he notes that 1) This lot looks very un-bandit-like, and 2) Everyone seems happy to see the woman here - particularly the tall fellow with the bow.

"See miss, things are looking up. Help has arrived. Hello, sirs. Anyone have a key?"

Doughbert fires his crossbow at the talkative fellow!!!!!!


Just kidding. Doughbert does not fire his crossbow at the talkative fellow.

What doughbert really does is scope out the rest of the room for other surprises while the party deals with this.

A third contains a despondent looking woman. She's pale, thin, haggard even, and is wearing a torn yellow dress. Hiker immediately recognises Miss Alma ...

Hiker dashes forward and immediately starts tearing at the bars, "Miss Alma, its me, Hiker, I came with these fellas to get you and now we found you and we can go home now, Miss Alma!"

Hiker does his best to get the cage open in whatever manner he can...

Nivek sighs in relief, "Excellent, now to get her out of here unharmed". Nivek turns his attention back to the door to watch for signs of bandits being alerted. "We ain't ought of here yet."

While the others free Alma (and presumably the talkative human male), Tannen approaches the three elves, ensuring his crossbow is pointed at the ground rather than at the elves. Somewhat awkwardly Tannen speaks: "Hello. I am Tannen. Do you speak the common tongue?"

Free and arm them quickly, hisses Paladin at the loud, chatty, inattentive others. I can hear them stirring in the other room! With that Paladin slinks out the door to hide in the corridor and keep watch while the others do whatever they do.

While the others free Alma (and presumably the talkative human male), Tannen approaches the three elves, ensuring his crossbow is pointed at the ground rather than at the elves. Somewhat awkwardly Tannen speaks: "Hello. I am Tannen. Do you speak the common tongue?"

"Yes, we speak your common tongue. I am Calebrindur, and this is Glondil and Rerion. If you could free us from this prison you would have our gratitude."

Whilst Tannen converses with the elves, the others manage to find the keys from the dwarf's bundle that unlock the cells of Alma and flamboyant fellow. As the door to her cell swings open, Alma rushes out, flings her arms around Hiker, and bursts into tears.

As the door to her cell swings open, Alma rushes out, flings her arms around Hiker, and bursts into tears.

"There, there, Miss Alma," says Hiker as he pats the matron, "It'll be alright. Just you fret none and stay behind us if the fightin happens again. We'll get you home, it'll be alright. Mama always said, things will work out to the good if you do good and rescuin you is a good thing."
