Damn, the boy just proved his mettle. thinks Karl, with a bit of pride.

Smiling, Karl steps back to the doorway, against the door, and watches out for reinforcements, or a sign from Paladin.

"Listen Mr. Dwarf Man," Hiker says as he sights down the shaft, "I could have shot you in the head first, but I didn't want to kill you. I just want Miss Alma back safe and sound with her family. But if you hurt my friend, I will shoot you just like the deer I killed a few weeks ago, right between the eyes. He didn't have time to run or even blink. Best tasting deer I ever 'ett,' too."

Hiker gauges his shot and shifts his focus to the Dwarf's eyes. "Your friends all fell swiftly. Like the deer. Do you want to?"

OOC: readied action: If the dwarf does not stand down, Hiker will shoot the dwarf in the head as a called shot.
After threatening the dwarf, Hiker holds waiting to see what reaction is elicited.
Hywaywolf wrote:(OOC: I've already said I will attempt to break the hold, but this is one tough drawf. Still you'd think with 4 people able to grapple him we would be able to take him down without resorting to using weapons. )
Doughbert struggles furiously, attempting to free himself from the dwarf's hold [saving throw vs. Death Ray with +1 DEX bonus: 10 - success!]. Doughbert does indeed manage to wriggle away from the bandit.

Karl takes a step back so that he can keep watch on the corridor outside.

[Rolls]. In response to Hiker's monologue the dwarf pauses and holds his open palms upright. "OK ..., OK ..., maybe we got off on the wrong footing here. Surely we work something out?"

Nivek, Tannen - do you want to modify your actions in light of this turn of events?

"All we want is the woman. Help us find her and you'll live." Tannen waits for the dwarf to reply, but should the dwarf reach for a weapon, Tannen swings his hand axe.

Whilst they talk, Nivek will get his dropped gear (keeping watchful eye on the bandit throughout). If the bandit makes sudden moves Nivek will attack (if before gear is retrieved via grapple, otherwise by mace).
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

Doughbert will go to the desk to see what the dwarf was working on as well as search the area.

Just as Tannen is speaking to the dwarf bandit and Nivek is cautiously retrieving his dropped gear, Paladin and Karl see the previously unopened door at the northern end of the corridor flung open and five bandits dash out. [Rolls]. They haven't yet spotted Paladin lurking in the shadows of the southerly stable entrance, but they've definitely got Karl in their sights as they hurtle down the corridor towards the dwarf's room.

(OOC: I need some clarification not on what Karl sees but on when the action happens. Are the positions you have on the tactical map the positions of the new bandits at the end of the current round? The lead dude covered 35' that round so in the next round he'll still be 10' short of our current room? Except for paladin (hiding in the west passage) this is almost like a surprise round before they can take action against us (unless they have range weapons). So if karl can give a holler some of us should be able to get a shot in before they arrive. Or just try to grab the dwarf again and hold him hostage.)

Last round the newly-arrived bandits all rolled a 3 or less for initiative and so acted last. I didn't declare this at the start of the round as you weren't aware of their presence.

Actually, all the bandits covered 60' (double their normal movement of 30' for running), but they also covered some distance on the far side of the door.

The positions on the map are, as stated, those at the end of Round 2.

(assuming some word of the coming bandits is given) "Damn these rotten scoundrels!", Nivek exclaims and he decides to simply bash (mace) this foul dwarf before he gets aid. "The Forge Lord does not think highly of those who seek riches without due toil."

If the rear guard maintains their silent hiding spots (assuming to get a jump on bandits), then Nivek maintains the watchful eye on the bandit dwarf (as the earlier post said). If he makes a sudden move, he gets bashed.
