Based on Hiker's previous forays into battle, Hiker will go into "kill bad guy autopilot" and join the rush into the room with his allies.
Firing arrows at the first targets available, he will have his hammer ready as a melee weapon should things get that far.

AS the others rush into the room, doughbert calls out, "Don't kill the girl!" Then alternately covers the room and the hallway with his crossbow."

After Paladin rather theatrically opens the door, Tannen and the others pile through. You're confronted by a comfortable (by bandit standards) living quarters. To your left (i.e. at the northern end of a room), a dwarf sits behind a crudely fashioned wooden desk studying a piece of parchment. You recognise him as one of Morward's companion's from your ealier meeting outside the northerly cave entrance.
The dwarf's eyes widen upon the arrival of his unexpected guests (rolls - no surprise), but he quickly gathers himself and starts to get to his feet.

(OOC: So naturally the party leader is last to react. Must've been expecting something different. We might want this one alive.)
If nobody else speaks, or kills him first, Karl will respond to any hostile action or attempt at alarm with "Don't.", and will happily put a bolt in his gullet if he so much as breathes funny. (Call it a held action to let the dwarf not make crow bait of himself.)

Doughbert drops the crossbow and races across the room and slams into the dwarf hoping to wrap him in a grapple and prevent any hostile action on the dwarfs part.

Paladin crawls back up into the corridor, out of sight of the room, stands, hides, and keeps an eye out for reinforcements.

Doughbert hurls himself at the dwarf and attempts to secture a hold [
modified "to hit" roll: 11 - miss]. The much stouter and heavier dwarf simply shrugs off his diminutive opponent.

Paladin scurries back towards the southerly stable cave entrance and conceals himself there.
Holding for Hiker ...

After taking a step to get a clear line of fire, Hiker will aim and shoot at a non-vital area on the dwarf to get his attention and then say, "Where is Miss Alma?! Tell me now or the next one will go in your gullet, Mr. Dwarf-man!"

Hiker takes careful aim with his shortbow at the lower half of the dwarf, trying to avoid his vital organs [
modified "to hit" roll: 20 - hit! for 6 damage]. The arrow thuds into the dwarf's left thigh. The bandit staggers and roars in pain, but remains upright.

Karl holds, waiting to gauge the reaction of the wounded dwarf.
With a look of slight panic, the dwarf makes a grab at Doughbert. Unlike the halfling, the bandit's grapple attempt is successful. With an arm firmly around Doughbert's neck, he pulls the halfling in front of him to provide a (somewhat undersized) shield. Through gritted teeth as he fights back the pain from his wounded leg, the dwarf snarls "Jus' stop yerselves right there, or yer little friend gets a blade across his neck. If ye leave right now Morward might even be merciful", and then shouting: "LADS, GET YERSELVES IN 'ERE, NOW!"
SmootRK wrote:Nivek likewise will rush to engage our adversaries. Knowing that every one of the bandits so far has proven to be riff-raff, hostile, and unwilling to submit peacefully, gives Nivek little inclination to expect anything other than another fight. Nivek will likely swing his mace first, then see if there is anyone left to question afterwords.

(
Nivek, will you still attack as previously stated, knowing that you risk clobbering Doughbert? Karl and Tannen also still have actions this round).

Hiker: HP 9/9.
Karl: HP 8/8.
Nivek: HP 7/7. 2 '0' level spells remaining today.

Tannen: HP 9/9.

Nivek pauses a moment to assess the situation with one of our own held in a grapple, but then decides to move to attempt to encircle the dwarf (eastern side). If it is possible, Nivek will then put down his weapons so that he can join into the wrestling pile at first opportunity.
However, if a knife is actually produced by the dwarf bandit somehow while he is maintaining his hold on Douhgbert, he will hold back.
