ooc: Um, yeah, If that's where they are ;) Hiker has Alma out of the way and out of danger. He's not about to run off and leave her or drag her towards another fight. Now, were someone to suggest having Mr. Bear or another trustworthy NPC watch her, Hiker may leave her side momentarily. but all the poor lad knows now is this: Alma is out, he stays with Alma and takes her home.

At Either End of the Tunnel

Post by JoeCarr28 »

Mandross, flask of oil in hand, joins Tannen and Nivek (and Morward and the dwarf lieutenant) at the southerly end of the main north-south tunnel. At the other end of the tunnel, the door bursts open and four bandits pile through ...

(For the record, as I understand it, the situation with the other party members is as follows: Hiker, Alma and Paladin are just outside the southerly cave entrance; Doughbert is sitting propped up against a wall near the prison cell intersection, and Karl is resting in one of the cells adjacent to the three captured bandits).

Doughbert: HP -1/5 (stabilised). No '0' level spells remaining today.
Hiker: HP 9/9.
Karl: HP -2/8 (stabilised).
Mandross: HP 4/5. 2 '0' level and no 1st level spells remaining today.
Nivek: HP 6/7. 1 '0' level spell remaining today.
Paladin: HP 3/4.
Tannen: HP 5/9.

Tannen waits until the bandits are close enough to see the bodies of their leader(s) before peering out from around the corner and looking northwards up the corridor, with his crossbow trained on the nearest bandit.

"HALT!" (Tannen will be ready to pull himself back behind the cover of the cave wall if any of the bandits raise their crossbows to fire) Tannen yells at the approaching bandits.

" I am weary of shedding blood this day, so you may leave with your lives and whatever provisions you can carry. As you can see, Morward is no longer in charge around here and it looks like your dwarf won't be issuing orders in this life. The rest of you band is dead or in the cells and we have the woman, elves and the mage with us. If you are not out of these caves within a hundred count, I'll give the signal for the halflings hidden behind you to shoot you dead."

{If they bandits glance about behind themselves, Tannen embellishes with a laugh
"The are concealed by magic - you won't see them until they've fired the shaft that will end your life." }

(The positions are about right - I think Karl still has a crossbow, in case he needs to shoot a prisoner or something)

Like a good wizard, Mandross stays behind Tannen.

Mandross will use the time between the bandits crashing through arriving and Tannen's speech to pull another handkerchief (It's like he's made of them!) and use it to wick the flask.

If there isn't a clear noise of surrender, and especially if Tannen delivers his magically hidden halfling line, Mandross will Mage hand a nearby torch over to float near the bodies, and not too far out of reach (Preferably from the north or east corridors, so they can see it float across and towards the bodies - but not more than 10-15 feet away from the bodies).
Go with a smile!

Paladin joyously reconnects with his friend! Barney! Barney! There were bandits! We got both of Alma's hands! We killed a dwarf, but not Nivek! Plus ponytail's head is coming out soon! Oddly, there's been no food, or I would have brought you a little nosh, he squeals. Paladin capers about like a demented clown while staying outside of paw range. Please don't eat the horses until we get back because we need them to carry lunkhead meaniemouth, he pleads. Assuming he survives.

Paladin's ears twitch as he hears his name being called. I guess they didn't move the desk, he mutters.

Be right back, says Paladin brightly to the bear. Try to keep the woman in sight for me please, begs Paladin. I don't want to lose her in the woods when she runs off screaming. Paladin pauses for a moment. And don't fall asleep near her, he adds.

Paladin moves into the mouth of the cave and sneaks up towards the angle passage that leads to the front door. He'll be prepared to fire up the passage if the bandits make a break for the back door cave.

The Threat of Unseen Halflings

Post by JoeCarr28 »

The four bandits pause, taking-in the unexpected scene - their dead leaders; the stranger pointing a crossbow at them; the threat of unseen halflings.

[Rolls]

Slowly, with weapons lowered, the bandits back-up north into the room they came from and shut the door behind them.

Doughbert: HP -1/5 (stabilised). No '0' level spells remaining today.
Hiker: HP 9/9.
Karl: HP -2/8 (stabilised).
Mandross: HP 4/5. 2 '0' level and no 1st level spells remaining today.
Nivek: HP 6/7. 1 '0' level spell remaining today.
Paladin: HP 3/4.
Tannen: HP 5/9.

{OOC: Woot! Maybe a 'sneaky' character can check that they've left after a couple of minutes?}

Tannen breathes a sigh of relief and lowers his crossbow. For the first time, his attention returns to the pain of his wound and thoughts of rest.

Tannen will head outside to let Alma/Hiker know that the bandits have retreated and the caverns are safe. He'll try and talk them in to staying in the caves, given that it will soon be night time and they'll get lost in the woods with lots of nocturnal animals (wolves or worse) if they try and head home right now.

Tannen will lead the horses inside and see that they are secured in the stables. Then he'll look for food, etc. and tend to his wounded companions, before returning to feed and water the horses. At some stage, Tannen will check out Morward's sword and armour and will question the captive bandits about why they were holding Alma, and what plans they had for her.

Seeing the door close, Paladin will hurry his little feet and move up to the now-closed door. He'll press his ear to the wood and try to hear what is going on behind it.

Nivek looks about for items of use or value, "Let us not tarry, grab supplies and valuables to load upon one of these beasts (looking towards the horses) and lets get back. The journey back can still be dangerous."
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?
