We should try some diversion to get one or two away from the others. Maybe set a small fire in the trees that they would need to investigate.

Tannen's instinct is that, individually, the bandits don't appear to be particularly formidable opponents. However, collectively they do seem to be reasonably well drilled and organised, and their leather armour is of generally good quality. As adversaries, Tannen reckons that they are probably a step-up from the goblins of yesterday, but, one-on-one, he'd be reasonably confident about taking them in a fair, or not-so-fair, fight.

From the tree-line to the cave mouth entrance there is approximately 30 feet of open ground.

"If we attack in concert and with surprise we might be able to best these men before they can raise the alarm. We'll need Paladin's bow though. Doughbert, do you think you can find him and bring him back?"

[OOC: It's short range for all missile weapons from the tree-line, assuming we can get close (or reasonably so) without being seen. I'm not sure a diversion is wise - these men might have orders to report all disturbances to others within the cave before investigating.

Joe, is there any potential for any of us to approach the cave entrance from the sides without being seen? If not for the heavily armoured humans then maybe for the sneaky halflings? A couple of backstabs might just turn the tide for us.

Also, Joe, do all four of the bandits keep their crossbows loaded and in-hand at all times?]

The tree-line traces a roughly semi-circular arc around the cave entrance. If you were able to lure the guards a sufficient distance away from the cliff face in which the cave mouth is situated, an attack from the rear might be possible if the guards were suitably pre-occupied by something in front of them.

All the bandits have their crossbows loaded and in-hand.

As we are in the wilderness I should be able to sneak up along the cliff face to get within striking distance. If we get surprise then I can hold my action until your attack attracts their attention and attack from behind in the first round. I would much rather attack from the safety of the woods with a bow though instead of being left all alone with the bandits until you guys can arrive in melee range.

Nivek whispers, "Lets get one of our little boys (referring to halflings) into a good position near the entrance, then we can stage a diversion or essentially take on the bulk of the guards. Our boy will do his best to eliminate anyone who tries to head in to alert the complex..... eh?"

He continues, "Essentially, lets just head with a small plan to try to stop any alarm from going up. Luck and the Blessings of the Forge Lord should be with us, as we are on a righteous path".

"If we get Paladin back here with his bow, we might be a chance of silencing them all at once."

[OOC: I think it best that we just all loose missiles at once. And let's not try and get too close and risk losing the chance for surprise. The halflings are too squishy and a pair of bandits would take one of them out in short order if we don't wipe out the bandits in one round.

Tannen only has his hand axe as a missile weapon, but at slightly longer than 30 feet, that's still medium range. Does Nivek have a missile weapon?]

Once Doughbert fetches Paladin, we can spread ourselves slightly, taking up positions that give clear line of sight to the bandit sentries, but leaving at least 10-15 feet of cover so as to minimize the risk of blowing our chance for surprise.

OOC: Nivek carries a hammer for throwing, but just one... so he will need to close the distance quickly after the initial volley.

Remember, Hiker has a short bow, and Karl a hand axe. To keep things moving along, assume that these two will go along with any plan that you hatch whilst I establish whether Keith and Eddie are still playing. As a strictly temporary measure, can I suggest that Tannen takes Karl as a retainer, and Nivek takes Hiker?

Doughbert would rather use his bow as he has the same attack bonus at short range as he does with backstab without the nasty side effect of being in melee range of 4 pissed off bandits.
