"You've got until noon dwarf," Pony-Tail instructs Nivek, "After that we take your friend here hostage and it'll cost you double to get him back."

((That gives you around 15 minutes to gather together the necessary coinage, or hatch any other plan.))
Niveks nods, "aye" and turns and heads back off to rejoin the others. While there, Nivek will explain the situation. "These boys mean business. Fifty gold is the price, and now if we don't pay Tannen will become a hostage and it'll cost us 100 gold to ransom him. We shall pay the price, but I want you lads to be ready for any duplicity... these are bandits after all, and they might double cross us."

Nivek goes on while he acquires the necessary cash from the others, "use your best stealth or hunting skills to find a location where you can see what is going on. If I yell out "double-cross" (thinking I need something simple and straightforward), it means we will need help and you should shoot or move to attack."

Upon receiving the funds, Nivek motions for the others to head out to positions. Since they will be moving in stealth, he gives them a little time before heading back. He times his pace to give the others as much time as possible to get into positions (without looking like he is wasting time).
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

Doughbert wasn't with the others, he was already in position hidden in the forest covering the cave entrance. Hopefully paladin has 50 gp on him.

OOC: Paladin has 257 coins of mixed silver and gold in a sack on his character sheet. I don't know what the breakdown between him and Doughbert is.

Paladin sighs. Bloodily gotten, easy go. Or something like that. Help me count the coins, he says. Paladin dumps the sack out on the ground and then starts counting them back into the sack, stopping when 50 GP worth has been shoveled in. Once that us done, or if it looks like we are going to come up short, he again will slowly and quietly get into a position in the underbrush from where he can see the brigands.

((Let's say, for the sake of simplicity, that Paladin has 50 gold coins in his collection)).

Paladin counts the coins out and hands them to Nivek.

OOC:It is an interesting question of Halfling avarice. Doughbert said to take the gold and silver first, but Paladin was the first to start filling his sack. For encumbrance purposes, how many coins are left in what denomination?

(Paladin originally took 257 mixed - gold and silver - coins [page 55]. These were split as 57 gold and 200 [based on the overall ratio of gold:silver in the treasure hoard - Paladin didn't originally say he priortised gold over silver]. Let's assume, given the time pressure, you pay your potential informants in gold only. That leaves you with 7 gold and 200 silver.)

Paldadin reties his now lighter sack of coins and begins the process of sneaking back into position.

Doughbert felt a great disturbance in the halfling Force, as if dozens of gold coins suddently cried out in terror and suddently silenced. He mourned for his now poorer brother and pledged to make up for his loss.

After a short wait to allow comrades to move toward their positions, Niveks heads back (as mentioned above).

Retraced Steps

Post Tue Jul 12, 2011 7:00 am

Nivek retraces his steps and finds the scene outside the cave much as he left it - Pony-Tail and his guards with their crossbows trained on Tannen.

"Got the money?" the leader asks Nivek.

Doughbert: HP 5/5. No '0' level spells remaining today.
Hiker: HP 9/9.
Karl: HP 8/8.
Nivek: HP 7/7. 2 '0' level spells remaining today.
Paladin: HP 3/4.
Tannen: HP 9/9.
12 noon, 28th day of Harvestide.
