Season 1 - Episode 4: The Goblin Caves

OK, Tannen, Nivek, ready when you are ...

Tannen nods to each member of the group, before taking up his position alongside Nivek. With the fiercely burning torch clutched in his sweaty palm, Tannen whispers to the dwarf: "May that forge lord of yours burn hot in all our hearts. Now, let's hear you impersonate one of those filthy little beasts... that we may lure them out to be slaughtered."

Tannen waits for Nivek's "trigger" and then listens carefully for any approaching goblins. Once he's certain there are some goblins coming, he'll head back around the corner to the South side of the junction, alongside Karl hard up against the eastern side of the north-south corridor. Tannen realises the risk of being caught at the wrong end of the tunnel, but it was his plan, and he should be the last to flee if things go awry...

Once in position alongside Tannen, Nivek nods and looks for an affirmation of readiness... He swallows hard then puts his hand up to his face to project loudly, {Goblinese} "We got attacked by a boar! It killed some of the others, but I stuck it right good in the guts and killed it! We'll all feast up big tonight, but send a few hands to help carry the carcass inside!"

Nivek waits briefly to hear the results:
Hearing any approach, Nivek (along with Tannen) moves back to our 'trap' area and readies Shield and Mace.

[Intelligence Ability Roll for Nivek to see whether he can convincingly pull-off the goblin impersonation]

Nivek feels pretty confident that his impersonation is a good one. The curtain is just beyond the range of Nivek’s darkvision (and similarly Nivek and Tannen are beyond the range of the goblins'), but you think you can hear movement from the far end of the tunnel and you rush back to take-up your defensive positions. Meanwhile, the sounds of goblin footsteps grow louder ...

Doughbert sees Tannen and Nivek come rushing back into position like the very hounds of hell are after them. His stomach quivers and he clinches his buttocks in fear.

As the goblins saunter down the tunnel, one of them shouts out in your direction. Nivek understands it to be "Alright, we're comin'".

And then as they approach the corner, there is a brief exchange between two goblins:
"'Ere, what's that on the floor?"
"Dunno, probably water. Maybe the caves is leakin'"
"Yeah, mus' be rainin' outside. Not noticed it before".

Two goblins, their attention focussed on the pools of oil in front of them, appear around the corner. Neither is wearing armour, nor do they appear to be carrying any weapons. If they're guards, then they're most definitely off-duty.

[Rolls for surprise for the goblins, on 1-4 for an ambush - not surprised!]
