Season 1 - Episode 4: The Goblin Caves

Whilst the others reset the oil pools (cross-off two more flasks of oil please), Doughbert pokes his head cautiously around the curtain to survey the room. As there is no apparent and immediate danger, he throws the curtain back more widely to let the torchlight spill in properly.

Doughbert’s immediate impression is of a scene of devastation. Within the 30' x 30' cave, there is barely a square inch of the floor visible, covered as it is with an assortment of half-eaten food, furs, various bits of equipment (pans, knives, water flasks, sacks, etc. - all of poor quality), and general debris and rubbish. But nothing is ordered. It is almost as if a tornado has swept through the room and jumbled everything up. Based on what he’s seen in the previous caves, Doughbert figures that this is probably normal when a dozen or more goblins live in close proximity to one another.

Quickly scanning the room, Doughbert’s eyes are drawn to the three remaining goblins, cowering in a far corner. Upon seeing the halfling, they drop their swords, raise their hands, and whimper pathetically.


Doughbert: HP 3/5. No '0' level spells remaining today.
Hiker: HP 6/9.
Karl: HP 7/8.
Nivek: HP -1/7. Stabilised. No ‘0’ level spells remaining today.
Paladin: HP -1/4. Stabilised.
Tannen: HP 6/9.
5 pm, 27th day of Harvestide.

"They're surrendering, come up here and help me tie them up in case they change their minds. Then you guys can bring Nivek and Paladin up here while I search the room. Maybe they'll tell Nivek where Alma is."

Doughbert will wait for Tannen and the others, before going into the room. Once the gobs are safely tied up he'll begin searching the walls for secret entrances or hidden compartments. I doubt that there are any secret doors or they would have used them, but maybe the head dude kept it to himself. Doughbert will then begin searching through the clutter to see if there is anything valuable in it.

Karl helps to get Nivek into the cave where the goblins are. "You speak gobbly," he says by way of explanation.

Nivek tries to teach Tannen the goblinese phrases for "Where is the human woman?" and "Answers now or you will suffer!", and will then listen intently to how the exchange goes. Nivek does suggest to Tannen, "Perhaps I should just be near them for a while as you search the room. Perhaps if they think we cannot understand their speech, they might talk amongst themselves and give away some information? We can interrogate if that does not give us much to go on."

Otherwise Nivek rests wherever the group drops him.

Tannen, Karl with Nivek, and Hiker make their way up the north-easterly corridor to the goblins’ main living quarters. Once there, the three remaining goblins are tied-up.

The still active party members (Doughbert, Tannen, Karl and Hiker) conduct an initial search of the room. The only items of interest or value that you uncover are a set of six beautifully carved small wooden statues, which you find packed in a crate. Each is about a foot tall, with a single gem in what would be the forehead.

If you wish to search for secret doors, there’s a total of about 110’ of wall to search. So with four people searching it will take you about 30 minutes to search all the walls once. Or you could search more selectively.

The captured goblins just sit there whimpering, and looking at you imploringly for mercy. As far as Nivek can tell, they don’t try to talk to one another.

After the search of the room Doughbert will suggest that we hole up in the caves for the night so that Nivek and Paladin can heal up enough to walk on their own. We can completely search these walls and then in the morning we can heal everyone as best we can. We don't want to be walking out of here loaded with treasure and carrying to injured folks. We can either use these gobs to carry our non treasure loads or build something like stretchers so two people can share the load of the non treasure loot and drop it in case of danger.

Also the more healthy of us can go check out that first room where we heard the wolf sounds. Kill it if neccesary, but I would like to offer it to the old man as a thank you offering. We could even spend the night in the guard alcove and use the trap there to protect ourselves in case other gobs return.

Nivek, ask those goblins where there leader is, if they've seen the human woman and what's behind the curtain with the wolf noises"
Tannen will kill each of the goblins in turn until the party gets some answers.

Doughbert will search the walls for as long as it take sto cover them all for secret doors, hidden compartments, etc
